Re: Young Woman's Testimony Censored

Anything in particular you found interesting, Korihor? Any particularly enlightening or useful things come out in that?

(It's unlikely I'll ever get around to listening to it. Haven't listened to a Mormon Stories episode in years and years.)

Re: Young Woman's Testimony Censored

A couple of other tidbits I gleaned from Savannah's interview: I had assumed it was Savannah's bishop who cut off her microphone, but he was out of town that day. Her stake president was there and, of course, was the one presiding that day. Savannah kind of hoped her bishop would have been there. I ...

Re: Young Woman's Testimony Censored

I finally got around to listening to Savannah's interview on I Love to Look for Rainbows. (I don't listen to podcasts much.) I think we can pretty confidently answer one of the pressing questions here. The podcast is here: http://iliketolookforrainbows.com/2017/05/29/episode-2-savannahs-story/ . A t...

Re: Savannah's Testimory

Brent, your further comment ties in with a further comment I was thinking about. It's a bit of a thread jack, perhaps, so maybe I should take it elsewhere, but I think it ties in pretty well. For a long time people have observed that the church members of today who become disillusioned with the Chur...

Regardless of any preparation beforehand or delivery and video motives, the church's reaction was unsurprisingly authentic.
I believe this is one of the key points.

Re: Savannah's Testimory

Brent, I loved how you characterized the different society kids are growing up in today. For many of us, it is far, far different from what we experienced. I'm very excited that kids are a lot more accepting of the variety of their peers. Do you teach in the Mormon Corridor? I'd be surprised, and ve...

Re: Young Woman's Testimony Censored

5) I can't tell if the mom is pushing her or supporting her. Is it really our concern? None of this is really any of our concern, but does that keep us from talking about it? I am with Korihor on this one, as her talk just seems a bit too "grown up" for a 12 year old to be giving, and the recording...

At least the Catholics have monastic orders that probably work for some LGBT people.
Apparently they can work quite well for some LGBT people in some ways.

Re: Young Woman's Testimony Censored

The Happiness Seekers' blog post is pretty bad. Like the FAIR article it doesn't really know where it is going or what it is about. It's primary point is to reassure themselves and other members that they are good people and above criticism. I'm sure it largely satisfies that goal, but I don't think...

Re: Young Woman's Testimony Censored

Thanks for the good information. I don't disagree that people don't choose their sexuality, that it is part of who they are. My point was more to highlight that the world of many gay kids growing up is not perceived as bleak. And that by not feeling that being gay ruins your life, there are less ne...

Re: Young Woman's Testimony Censored

I believe Savannah when she says she is a lesbian and that she is attracted to girls and that it is permanent. But I don't know if Savannah lives in the harsh world you describe. It sounds like she has great, supportive parents and a group of friends who accept her for who she is regardless of what...

Re: Young Woman's Testimony Censored

I never really knew Thayne much on a personal basis. The only way I had to contact him was via the old board and that didn't work well in the last year it was up.

Re: Young Woman's Testimony Censored

I agree. Why would anyone choose these repercussions? One of the ways I've turned my thinking around in regards to young kids coming out was to ask myself "when did I choose to be straight?" I don't recall making a conscious choice and can't imagine any gay person would do the same. Yeah, I've cons...

Re: Young Woman's Testimony Censored

I've never actually blocked anyone on Facebook. There are a few people I've told it to show less from, mostly because they shared a huge number of things I'm not that interested in. I suspect that a number of people block me, presumably because I'm too scary. I know some have unfriended me, primaril...

Re: Young Woman's Testimony Censored

When LDSman first launched the NOM forum it ran on the Aimoo message board platform. At that time he promoted the NOM philosophy and the forum on a number of existing forums including RfM. After a while there was a bit of a skirmish on the board between those who wanted to freely criticize the Churc...

Jeffret, welcome to NOM 2.0.
I think this has to be at least 3.0 or 4.0. The old Aimoo board would have to be the 1.0 version.

Re: Young Woman's Testimony Censored

Given the past postings of the person recording this video, it seemed like a set up to provoke a robotic response from any presiding TBM, and the forthcoming robotic response illustrated the gulf between the ideal as taught by Jesus and the reality of our Church. Unless some information has come ou...

Re: Young Woman's Testimony Censored

Thanks for the welcome! In case my earlier missives on the idea that Savannah is merely choosing to identify as lesbian as a passing lark or fancy was insufficiently long, let me take off on Hagoth's comment with another idea. There is a common accusation among straight people that gays are merely c...

Re: Young Woman's Testimony Censored

It's hard to tell just what Scott Gordon at FAIR is trying to say about the situation other than the Church must be protected, Savannah is bad, and it is all because of mean anti-Mormons. It's also pretty hard to tell who he thinks his audience is. His first section is "Understanding LDS Church Meet...
