Warren Jeffs would not exist had it not been for Joseph Smith.
Wow, that is giving him a lot of power and absolving a lot of people of responsibility. Sort of like blaming Christopher Columbus for all of the evils of America.

Re: Why no children from JS plural marriages?

I think for me, it's the entire dishonesty, deceit and betrayal that was involved. This is what I hear. It is about the dishonesty. And the Betrayal. And it is about how you feel in your relationship with the church. It is almost as if you are living Emma's life. I don't know how much I can trust a...

Re: There Is No Plan

That is understandable. I personally find that God is more "nothing" than something. For sure, God isn't selective about whom he loves.

Recently, God is more about understanding the relationships. You named "evolution."

But, evolution of what? How did it get here?

Re: Why no children from JS plural marriages?

Joseph taught him polygamy so he followed through with it as best he could. I am going to be honest here. I honestly don't know if JS if promoted polygamy. And at some point, I stopped caring. Comparing JS with JC makes as much sense. JC ran with women of questionable character, but in the end, it ...

Re: Reincarnated As A Psychopath

What he didn't understand was life from anyone else's perspective. Which is basically what I was saying. Psychopaths can do good. I think many genius doctors can be psychopaths. But, they cannot feel the pain of others. When psychos go bad, it is extra scary. I don't think it's all or nothing at al...

Re: Why no children from JS plural marriages?

If JS had progeny from those other than Emma, the debate over whether he was having sex with his wives would be over--or so we think. I think the debate will continue because apologetics isn't concerned with the truth; they are concerned with image and spinning it in favor of the narrative. This is...

Yes, it is the struggle. Love who have shared her lunch with the rock and they should have become fast friends. But.... Whether she ran or checked would have depended a lot of personal experience. Things like courage, trust, self-confidence, play a role. But those things result in the practice of on...

Re: Support request

NOM used to talk about the Third Way. The path of disbelief but functional engagement. I knew a man in St. George, brilliant in many ways, was TBM, but went to a museum one day, saw the bones of a dinosaur and came home and quit the church. His family wasn't happy about it, but he couldn't reconcile...

The foundation shifts. The fall is coming...it is coming....
If the church "falls" you will see that there are plenty to pick it up, actually wait to pick it up. Many think the church is illegitimate because of this issue, and has been a 130 years.

For my purposes,
Yeah, I get this.

We all look at things the way that suits us.

My comment wasn't to be argumentative, just that I have my doubts. I'd defend polygamy for JS, as I can see certain reasons for it, but not for BY. It's quite the dilemma, really.

Re: Reincarnated As A Psychopath

The trick is, say that Bushlady Jane is walking the bush and sees a brownish lump in the grass ahead. Her brain gives her two instant ideas, 1, it's a 800lbs lion. 2, a rock to have lunch on. Statistically, the brain is x5 more likely to go with option 1. That is why Bushlady Jane will live long eno...

Re: A God of pleading not for me

I’ve heard of God descibed many different ways, but one of the ones I personally like best is the idea that God is Love - pure love. And love really when it comes down to my understanding of it is largely based on my subjective interpretation of how I feel loved or love others. And I define love as...

I hope that he did. But, in spite of your reliable articles, if you go deep enough into the rabbit hole, there is reasonable doubt.

But, why no children?

We base the no children assumption on DNA reports from a genetics lab that has a strong history of Church apologetics.
The church wants him to be guilty, because if he isn't, the whole thing is a fraud.

Re: Why no children from JS plural marriages?

Perhaps I've watched too much CSI over the last few years. I used to believe that Joseph Smith had pleural wives. I wanted to believe that. But once simply observed there isn't any evidence. The testimonies would probably be thrown out of court. Simply too much bias. There is evidence the Brigham Yo...

Re: Why no children from JS plural marriages?

Ahmed's Razor is the religious version of Occam's Razor, except that Ahmed doesn't shave.

Point is, all the "evidence" that these women were married to JS comes through BY, but was denied by JS and ES in public statements.

Re: Disgusting Primary Manual story that sets unrealistic expectations

This is a bit harsh. Perhaps true, but watching Disney channel really loads kids down with expectations. Every tv show tells kids that they need to be special, that they can change the world, and that extraordinary is the new ordinary.

Re: A God of pleading not for me

Praying, pleading, (as worded) is the spiritual equivalent of breathing. Many years ago, before our ancestors could be called human, we didn't have mysterious questions. We didn't wonder what we did wrong, or how we could please the gods. But then, then we noticed that lightning caused fire, and we ...
