Re: 90 % of Utah legislature are LDS

Utah politics are unbalanced. There's an interesting history as to how the state evolved into a republican majority. It's no surprise the church as always been a big part of the government in this state, but I think most would be surprised as to just how much the church controls it, especially wher...

So the question is that even though the population that claim to be LDS is only 55%, why do they keep electing so many Mormons? At some point, the voters have to take credit for keeping this going.
How many are NOM, or just go for appearances...

Raylan, did you have any experience with the former LDS Governor of Arizona, Evan Mecham?
I only know he was impeached. He was definitely a good ol' boy

90 % of Utah legislature are LDS

I saw this this morning, it wasn't surprising. https://www.standard.net/news/government/lds-members-account-for-nearly-percent-of-utah-state-legislature/article_9011463b-512e-5220-a5a3-24d68a2a7acb.html I am actually thinking it isn't such a bad thing. My experience from living in Arizona has taught...

Re: Facebook "Education Help"

It's that passive/aggressive behavior that mormonism has perfected, along with the inherent belief that they are 100% correct in all things. Something like this popped up on DW's feed when she used a clever joke to announce she is a Norman (no longer Mormon). They tried to let her know that the Chu...

Could your DW be saying this just to get you active again.

Sorry...2biz already suggested this. I'd just ask the wife to avoid one on one conversations.
Appearance of evil right? ;)

It probably feels nice to get a little flirt...can't say that has happened to me in a long, long time...

Re: Utah researcher: theory of religious influences in Utah LGBT suicides may be overblown

DD came home from school early, mostly for monthly girl reasons but also because she was upset about the rumors spread by this snotty little beauch. Our DD has had depression and issues with suicide in the past and continues to struggle socially at the high school. DW and I discussed sending the pa...

The guy probably lives off of kale smoothies and no sugar, still snow skis and still has a full time job that is very taxing (tons of travel). He is also crazy intelligent. He may live to be 120 years old. If this barber can do it, why not the Lord's Anointed? https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/201901...

Re: Having an 8yo baptism, or not.

Just tell the bishop you're having a same-sex marriage on Saturday. That will end the child baptism harassment... My friend brought up a point, he is in a mixed faith marriage and having to figure out baptisms. He compared having a baptism at 8 in a mixed faith marriage, in the same light as the ba...

Re: Missionary name badges

Anyone remember the old days of Stake Missionaries? They would wear their badges to all meetings, I even had a neighbor who wore his all over town as well. I remember walking in on a Stake Missionary meeting as a kid, and looking around at the weirdness of the badges and the meeting. Slowly backing ...

Re: The long rumored temple changes are happening now?

On fb, someone shared this about the sealing: - Instead of women giving themselves and the men not, they both just to receive each other, and there’s talk of them counseling with each other and laboring together to raise a family and men are given a charge to be gentle etc - it’s very beautiful Gla...

Re: Areas where science has forced the church to change their story/approach/whatever?

Pretty sure President Nelson came out against evolution when he was still an apostle. Guess he was the ideal person to walk back the possibility of evolution given his medical background. He phrased his reservation against evolution without saying "thus saith the Lord" allowing the BYU biology depa...

I know someone on the DABC commission. They have been aware of this for while, they have a plan in place to recommend changes to the legislature. I doubt they do anything unless their hand is really forced.

Re: BSA considering bankruptcy

I am the scout advancement chair in my ward. That position will obviously disappear next December, but I have done this job for several years and plan to support the young men for as long as scouting remains supported nominally in the LDS church. And I'm disappointed in the decline in the BSA. I'm ...
