Re: Mother’s Day

I made it through the mother's day sacrament and services - did not sing "families can be together forever...if you go to the temple.. song... I no longer believe in an exclusionary God that splits families apart. In RS I was able to comment on the diverse influential women in my life, from traditio...

Re: Newly disillusioned...

I simply mean that I can't talk about Joseph Smith, the restoration, modern prophets, or much of our current "doctrine" in the way most active TBM (95% of our ward) would expect. It would either have to be disruptive, or be a lie (loss of integrity). So I follow the mantra of not saying anything at...

Re: Newly disillusioned...

... trying to find something acceptable to say that let's me feel like I still have some amount of integrity. ... How are you defining integrity? Honestly reading all sources, and being open to changing your viewpoint when given new information = integrity to me. In any event - I'm sure it is all d...

Re: Prescription for Coffee

I use straight caffeine pills - you are able to more closely control the dosage, no added calories, much easier to pop a pill than brew a cup when needed :)

Although when I do have time, I do enjoy a nice cup of Jo - just never seem to have the time.

Re: Pornography is worse than adultery, apparently.

Things that upset me about the addition recovery groups at church 1) they are led by untrained volunteers 2) they completely ignore the victims (there are way more groups for addicts than there are for victims) 3) they enable abuse to continue - pat on the head with no consequences The HP who abuse...

No "sealings" in the temple, only marriages?

Someone else pointed this out and I just want to be sure it is true - if you look at the exact wording in the temple ceremony, people are not actually sealed to one another, they are only "married" for time and eternity. There are individual blessings sealed on patrons, but these are for the individ...

Re: My chance to speak on Easter

I would just stick with scriptures from the Bible. Talk about the garden tomb in Jerusalem - how neat it is that you can actually see where these events took place (unlike anything in the BOM  ) I like to use the BLB - look at original words, and different translations: https://www.blueletterbi...

Re: If the church were to admit and apologize...

Strange - the Catholics claim infallibility - Petrine supremacy of the pope, and yet no Catholic I have ever talked with believes their church or pope to be perfect...

Mormons do not claim the prophet or the church are perfect.... and yet... the culture acts like they are??

Re: on being outside

My parents did not attend my temple marriage (they were never members), and now I might not attend my children's marriage. I guess you could see it as part of letting go, letting them start a new life without you. Words over an alter and a pretty dress are not what create a marriage. Marriage is the...

Re: If the church were to admit and apologize...

What do you think, how far would a simple apology go? ...It would take a while to make up for that, and even then, would trust actually be restored? What if they did not ask for your trust - but instead used their faults to promote individual agency and beliefs? I'm on the fence because of family (...

A homeless girl came to church asking for help - and our bishop at the time told me "people like that, I give them $50, and send them on their way". It shocked me that they were unwilling to really help... (The homeless girl ended up staying with me for almost a year... she is ok now, but it was due...

If the church were to admit and apologize...

I was thinking about forgiveness, and the repentance process. I recently suggested to our stake president that the church is not perfect and should go through the repentance process just as its members are asked to. ... the church is kind of like a marriage - if there is dishonesty etc., if everyone...

Re: Dr. Laura gives advice to mormon couple

I'm not sure if I agree with "no details of why I left" idea. Different families have different dynamics, and there are kind vs. confrontational ways of sharing things... Why not - "I can share why I left with you, but know it would involve delving into subjects you might find painful. If you would ...

WW Devo for YA Help

Long story short - mixed faith marriage, kids in the church, I am supposed to 'help' them study for their upcoming lesson from: https://www.lds.org/study/broadcasts/worldwide-devotional-for-young-adults/2018/06/hope-of-israel?lang=eng I would like to send them the *full* lesson, and was hoping you c...

I would conditionally attend - on the condition they agree to allow the mtg to be recorded. Let them know you represent a group of inactive members (us) who are all interested in what a mtg like this looks like. If they are truly interested in helping inactives who all have very similar concerns, th...

Re: Struggling...A Lot

Sounds like you need a support group - if your spouse is struggling too, that might be good to do some kind of group together. What city do you live near? Maybe someone here can help with local resources for you?
