Another failed miracle
For those of you on Reddit, please forgive the double post here but I know our beloved Elder R. Free Mormon visits here and I wanted him to see this. The church put out this story (maybe today?). https://www.churchofjesuschrist.org/blog/the-miracle-of-the-pink-christmas-tree Kid gets a blessing, mak...

Re: Church Renews Opposition to ERA
I've done a bit of googling this morning but I think I'm finding mostly one-sided arguments on both sides, with a fair amount of fear and disgust for the other side. I barely remember this fight from childhood - can anyone share a good source on the actual legal ramifications, pro and con, for this ...

Re: New RFM Podcast--Arguing Against the Evidence
Consig - great episode. I love long-form, eat them up. But I had a very clear thought ("impression") that this is what we need, short, succinct and hard-hitting pieces but with a tone that our TBM families could stomach. I think you're on fish, my friend.

Re: How to Tarnish Your Brand in 5 Easy Steps
So, I'm confused. Is it this: Tithing is down so BYU-I has been inducted to make up for part of the loss by forcing students to buy from the Church's insurance company, which company has highly inflated rates? I can’t figure it out either. Considering the big pile they were definitely going to step...

Well said, and could be applied to many many changes, from the big ones (race/priesthood+temple, polygamy, temple rituals) to the smaller stuff (not talking to parents for 2 years, 3 hour church, "inspired" programs like home teaching).

Re: Mormon Stories Interviews RFM
Excellent work, Consig. I have been thinking a lot about what you said about the Bible stuff in the BOM being the smoking gun. It was the first thing that spooked me, and this was in 1991 on my mission. Someone asked, "Why the KJV english?" Not being any kind of scholar, I had nothing. Then I starte...

Re: Tithing settlement
Don't underestimate the power of direct eye contact, strong body language and short succinct answers like "I am a full tithe payer". Then keep staring and not speaking. Most will accept that and move along. But I think I'd start with the email as others suggested. You don't need to explain your calc...

And source? Sorry l, I hear stuff like and it screams urban legend. Yes. The minster said it but what paper or study is he quoting this data from, or it is a "It feels real" type situation? A lot of these, particularly in political situations, feel like buzz words. looking for the little upvote arr...

Re: A Netlix/TV show about Joseph Smith would be absolutely fascinating
Every time I see a thread like this my first initial reaction is: Nobody cares about MORmONism . But... That musical about some book related to MORmONism is a smash hit, so If the show about Horny Joe is done right, I guess it could work. :ugeek: Edit: And since the Red Cowboy and I were posting al...

Re: A Netlix/TV show about Joseph Smith would be absolutely fascinating
Starting with your last thought - my widow MIL is on a "mission" as an office secretary in a Mission in Canada. She asked to be sent to 2 specific places where she could do family history in the evenings, so they sent her to a very cold, dark place all by herself. And she had to buy a truck for the ...

Re: Reformed Egyptian
This is why I love coming back here. Along the lines of authenticity, COB is really pushing the 1st Vision bicentennial and if Ballard's recent video about it is any indication of what's to come we can expect them to double-down on the PoGP version with all of its problems. My opinion is that they h...

Re: The Book of Mormon: Written for Who's Day?
[/quote] The doctrine of infant baptism is nearly re-employed by the church in baptizing eight year olds. No child of eight years of age is prepared to understand the heavy baptismal covenants that are only revealed later and then foisted upon them as teens and adults. Here the church practices an e...

Re: Questions about YM changes
That was my very first thought. TSCC has no concern for it's local leaders and their time/family life. Right? I was never a bishop but I had my four kids really close together and was called as EQP right before the fourth one was born. That was just stupid! Life was too busy for me to do all that a...

That joke he used was unkind, detached, and cruel. My wife and I tease each other all the time, but plural marriage on the other side was always on the "we don't joke about this" list. She was livid when she heard about it and we've been out for 3 years now. She tells me that every woman she knows i...

Re: Terryl Givens new Video on Book of Abraham With Kerry Muhlestein
I haven't seen this You Tube video interview up yet, here on these message boards I mean, but think it is interesting to note that Givens is turning to the LDS Egyptologists and getting more and more involved with the Book of Abraham and the Papyri. I have made a couple comments on the video as has...

But does he have multiple priesthood antennas? Yes, he does, and like so many other things you can prove it via Star Trek: When I was a kid I read a book by some writers of the original Star Trek series (I forget the title and authors) I learned: 1-The character of Spock was originally intended to ...

Re: In Which Brian Hales Reassures Me Joseph Wasn't a Sexual Predator
Per BH: "5. It is true Joseph was revered, but we know of at least five women who turned him down without at repercussion." Thanks Brian, we also know about women he called whores because they didn't accept. We also have young Martha Brotherton who was first assaulted by JS and BY and then smeared w...
