Re: No more cell phones

That's dumb. When I was an active member, I had my hymn book and all scriptures on my cell phone. Whether I used that device for church stuff or to play games, isn't that called free agency? I didn't stray, because...TBM. I understand the rule in a work place where you are supposed to pay attention ...

I appreciate the suggestions. Especially Hermy's long list, itemized by provider. I see that a new series is starting this Friday called The Witcher. The trailer looks like it will be good.

Re: Casual dress in church ????????

Dressing up to attend church in a dingy building seems wrong. For years, the church buildings do not feel clean. I'm sure it's because the membership "volunteering" to clean is a lot of the reason it feels grimy throughout. Casual dress seems more fitting for the mediocre cleanliness of the buildings.

Re: Christmas, Bah! Humbug!

I'm now atheist but still like traditional Christmas music, even MoTab music. It really is quite good, though it does make me sad too. It makes me miss being a kid. I remember, as a kid, visiting lonely, old people. Now I'm one of those, only because I don't go out and find people/friends. It's like...

Re: Weirdness of the LDS faithful

I also remember the fun stuff. Christmas ward dinners with Santa, Wednesday night MIA that was both fun and churchy, ice skating, bowling, mini golf, roadshows, dances, etc. I don't know if it was fun because I was a youth/kid or if it was more fun. As an adult working in YW, we didn't do fun outing...

Re: Are You a Failed Parent?

I am. Society says I am. Mormons definitely say I am. I have a troubled, adult child who made bad decisions and is now in the prison system. I can't tell you how hurtful it is to read shared memes about how all of that kind of trouble is born in the home. Parents fault...PERIOD! Sometimes children m...

Re: Bob McCue: The Church is like a Narcotic

http://bobmccue.ca/wp-content/uploads/2014/02/rs.most-common-questions.pdf This paragraph really describes the difficulty in leaving the church. It’s literally like getting off of drugs. The cumulative effect of what the Mormon Church does, as I have just indicated, is crippling to the individual. ...

Re: Question about conference

Here is GBH's statement from that above mentioned Larry King show. "I condemn it [polygamy], yes, as a practice, because I think it is not doctrinal. It is not legal. And this church takes the position that we will abide by the law. We believe in being subject to kings, presidents, rulers, magistrat...

Re: NOMference Fall 2019 Sunday Afternoon

Uh-oh. I missed the big weekend. I didn't even know it was conference until checking NOM this morning. If points were still allowed, I would say -10 for missing conference. +100 for not knowing it was even occurring. I do have to wonder if the leaders love to toy with the members and then just sit b...

You could always tell her that it is a narrow-minded echo chamber that makes you frustrated to the point that the stress making you anxious and sick, so you need to take a break from it for a while. You don't have to fess up to a faith crisis to hate Priesthood Meeting. It is very hate-able all on ...

Re: the Dark Night of the Soul

I felt liberated when I left. Big relief at the lack of guilt. Nevertheless, I still feel there is no purpose. I still feel cheated from an eternal afterlife in the telestial or terrestrial heaven. I was never interested in the Celestial Kingdom. It always felt too sterile and temple-like. Boring. N...

YES! It isn't about being entertained. It's about (((obedience))).

At least with Lawrence Welk, you could always look forward to the bubbles. Haha.

Re: Is NOM going the direction of some other online groups?

I like to pop in and see what's new. How people are dealing with NOM-life. Resolutions to questions or problems. I don't say much because I am not comfortable in social settings (in person or online), and feel like an outsider to the core group. To be fair, I've felt like that since jr high school. ...

Close your eyes (just for a second because you need to read this)... and imagine... You’re among other Mormons. Someone says a prayer, then someone leads everyone in singing. People take turns talking. Sounds familiar? Except picture everyone naked and in water. Now open your eyes (wider ;) ) and r...

Re: Maybe it’d be nice if everyone posted a very short intro who they are

My story is pretty dull (common). Grew up in the institution. Was born of "Goodly, righteous" parents. Very TBM upbringing. As an older teen, I was a rebel but eventually went full-on TBM. I was/am married to a never-mo, but a good guy that my family thought would eventually get dunked; still hope s...
