Does anyone have references to the Nov. Policy being given by revelation?

I could swear they actually said it was given by revelation. I can hardly believe this level of backpedaling- backpedaling at best, gaslighting at worst. Of course, they say now that their decision is inspired... Does anyone have references to the church saying that the November Exclusion Policy was...

Re: Western vs. Eastern religions

I think all of these sorts of experiences may have some kind of value for us, whether we understand correctly what that value is or not. By the way, I should have posted this TED talk: https://www.ted.com/talks/jonathan_haidt_humanity_s_stairway_to_self_transcendence?language=en This is from Jonatha...

Re: Western vs. Eastern religions

The major breakthrough in my life is the realization that I already have what I need and what's important is following a path that helps me discover and expand on that. Teachers can help me along my way, but just as often they can trip me up. The real secret to life, in my opinion, is developing th...

Re: Western vs. Eastern religions

This is really good stuff. Some time during the fallout of my faith crisis, I read a book called "Radical Acceptance: Embracing Life with the heart of a Buddha". It was such an incredibly refreshing perspective after the hell I had been through. It told me in a pretty convincing way I was actually O...

Re: What do you say to someone who is dying?

This is something I don't like to think about. I guess I'm still in the middle of an existential crisis of sorts, and I still haven't gotten over the loss of eternal life... It makes me really sad to think about the finite nature of human existence. It also makes me really sad that I don't have anyt...

Re: FAIR is FOUL

I wonder if there's any way of knowing how many of the contributors to FAIR eventually tumble down the rabbit hole themselves and either move on or have to disengage from apologetics to avoid the need to move on. I bet there aren't many. The FAIR contributors must be an internet savvy crowd, and if...

Well, there was something McNaughtonesque about Reagan riding on a flag carrying Velociraptor with a semi-automatic.
No kidding!

Re: Transitional underwear

I can sympathize. Removing the garments was one of the hardest things I did, for that very reason. I think my wife cried more bitterly then than when I told her I didn't believe. It may have been several months later. The whole process was so traumatic I just couldn't go any faster. I initially boug...

Re: S. Baptists Child Abusers - beware the smiling eyes

For what it's worth, I was impressed with the SBC's responses. They didn't try to shift blame, but instead thanked the journalists and demanded reform. I can't say how much will actually change of course, but the words sounded like they were going the right direction. I wonder if the LDS church woul...

I was really surprised to see that, too! Honestly, I have mixed feelings about that particular message. It feels a little deceptive. Something like "Real Mormons With Real Questions- Mormon Stories" would have sat better with me. But, that's just my impression, and I'm sure otheres see it differentl...

Re: Latest realization

I don't have a great substitute, but I did have a similar realization. I used to think I was brave- that I would stand up for my morals and principles even if the whole world was against me. I've since realized that I was only sort of brave. I was brave enough to stand up for my tribe's morals and p...

You know what else she nailed? The feeling of suddenly not knowing who you are, and trying to figure that out at a time when your peers are all way past that.

Re: Terrible, thanks for asking: episode 33

That's the part I struggle with. I see the good that steers members to goodness but I also see the weird, crazy, toxic side too. I really related to this women who eventually decided to let her father be at peace with his end of life decision and not let her new beliefs interfere with his beliefs. ...

No kidding. She nailed it. Especially the conflict between having family at all and actually letting them know you. No one in my family would shun me, but I don't think they really know me anymore, either.

Re: Terrible, thanks for asking: episode 33

That was really powerful. I was also in the middle of a hidden faith crisis when my dad died of cancer. It was horrible. Mormonism didn't kill him in the same way the JW religion did to her father, but my dad had been given numerous blessings of healing (including one by myself), none of which worke...

My nephew just got a very similar call. He does have a major medical condition and wasn't sure he'd be able to go at all. He's really excited, so I'm happy for him. I don't think he'd describe it this way, but I think it's a big deal to him that he can participate in the cultures rite of passage int...

But I really think he was exed because his movement was getting a lot of attention, and the moment they exed him it was a clear message to members that he was to be ignored and forgotten about. Yep, and it works, too! Once a person has been labeled apostate, they instantly lose all credibility with...
