Re: #givethanks
I thought about this a lot while watching. It was an argument from authority. He helped develop some tools and techniques for surgery; therefore, you should accept him as a representative of God. It was a non-sequitur. Let's not forget that Ben Carson is a skilled brain surgeon who believes absolut...

Re: What are you doing to protect your family against the virus?
The modern history of medical masks began not as a way to stop viruses, but as a way to keep spit from falling when surgeons talked as they operated. Masks help to stop spit, but obviously they do not stop people from breathing in or out thus they don’t stop respiratory virus spread. What masks do ...

Good stuff, ABoM! I like the Etruscan example and I added it to my BoM DNA annotated essay. You touch on another point that I have mentioned before because it was one of my first indicators that Book of Mormon apologists are dishonest. Ether, as you pointed out, explicitly claims that the Jaredites ...

Re: #givethanks
The part of this talk that I had a problem with was when Pres. Nelson referred to himself twice as, "a man of science." I present the following evidence to the contrary: To think that man evolved from one species to another is, to me, incomprehensible. Man has always been man. Dogs have always been ...

Just had a thought.... Suppose OAKS was the World faith leader at this time. How would his message have been different? Even if it was word-for-word the same it wouldn't seem sincere. If it had been Bednar, somehow he would have found a way to put the blame for the virus on the members of the church.

Re: #givethanks
My thought is: what breaking controversy or scandal is this covering up for? If not, its just attention seeking and self validation. It was an attempt to answer to the question everybody's been asking themselves (but not daring to say out loud): Why isn't the prophet, seer, revelator, and mouthpiec...

Second, according to this passage, the Nephites did write more of Jesus' words on another set of plates, but that was not passed down to us, even though the BoM is written specifically for our day? They wrote it down and then just buried it somewhere, never to be seen again? Talk about hiding your ...

Re: #givethanks
Doesn't sound like there was much prophet-ing, or seer-ing, or revelate-ing going on. As a non-believer you would get the loud and clear message, "hey, I'm obviously not a prophet, but don't make the mistake of thinking I'm also not a concerned and sensitive guy." He focused a large part of the mes...

Re: #givethanks
Wait, so during the talk people could tweet messages and they showed up on the screen? Yup. It was a parade of virtue signaling. The best part was people telling other people to stop typing and actually listen to what he was saying, which is doubly humorous because they had to stop listening to him...

I thought it was a pretty good message. I like that he invited everyone to pray along with him. Also that they at least showed people wearing masks, even if he couldn't go quite so far as to actually say it. The stream of comments was mostly "We thank thee oh God for a Prophet!!!!" But my favorite w...

Re: If I could ask them one question . . . Come Follow Me, Lesson 44
As Jacob explained, he could only write a little of his words because of how difficult it was to engrave them on plates (Jacob 4:1). This is a great point that has never been adequately addressed by apologists. We have things like Ether's genealogy, the ultra-detailed and completely useless explana...

Re: BOM and LOTR (Lord of the Rings)
Did you know there is still no good easy name to refer to the people formerly called Mormon? Residents of Mordor or "ROM" would make a workable substitute. I dunno, Members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints rolls right off the tongue. Maybe we could fulfill RMN's admonition to keep...

Has anybody heard the name Satan associated with COVID yet? As in "Satan is using COVID to weaken your faith and keep you from attending church?"

Re: Broke Back Church
To have your perfect mormon missionary experience you must be willing to destroy so many who can not conform and come home early. You must be willing to cause trama in others so you can rejoice that you finished. Not to mention potentially destroying other peoples' family relationships by convertin...

Re: Letters to the Slackers
ow, I have virtual ward council, 1 hour sacrament, 1 hour virtual gospel doctrine or EQ, 1 hour of herding primary kids around a computer screen for virtual primary, followed by phone calls for ministering interviews. That's right, I'm basically back to the three hour block at best. Yikes. My Zoom ...
