Re: What did Jesus have to say about...
My POV about Jesus for what it's worth is that his movement was a peaceful movement otherwise Pilate would have slaughtered his followers and hunted them down at the time of the crucifixion and also afterwards. They would not have been able to set up a Christian community in Jerusalem after the cruc...

Re: YW General President's Misleading Faith Promoting Experience of Her Toddler Grandson's Death
All we know right now is that this child died by homicide (not necessarily murder) i.e., through the actions of another human being. We know the mother was arrested for aggravated child abuse but the charges were dropped. The father was charged by CPS for medical neglect but there were no consequenc...

Re: Oaks vows BYU will not be part of "the World"
But the thing that stands out most prominently is what he doesn't say. +1 This is exactly what I said to me wife this morning. Look at what the mouthpieces of the Lord DON'T talk about. There are so many problems in this world that are actually serious. Therefore, God doesn't really care about thes...

Re: YW General President's Misleading Faith Promoting Experience of Her Toddler Grandson's Death
I'm numb to most of the crap that the GA's share now (most of the time). But this one really hit me. It really made me angry. The fact that the little child died from child abuse by one of the parents--I just can't seem to let it go. Even though I know that humans will embellish stories and there ar...

Re: Joseph Smith and the curse of the flaming sword
It's so crazy to realize that I would not have even thought twice about this back in the day. BUT, (for many of us) when you are inside the pill bottle it's difficult to read the label.

Re: Oaks vows BYU will not be part of "the World"
It's interesting to see both my wife's and my reaction to it. It really shows what stages of transition we are in. My wife is angry about the talk. She was going on a rant about this morning. I totally don't blame her when I think about the damage that is done by these people. For me, I'm just numb ...

Re: YW General President's Misleading Faith Promoting Experience of Her Toddler Grandson's Death
While I sympathize for any grandmother who loses a grandson like that, it is nothing short of bizarre the way that Bonnie Cordon keeps telling the story publicly and leaving the details out. In one telling she told about them trying to take the empty carseat back on the plane and getting a hard tim...

Re: How do you stay sane and grounded?
I think it's very normal to feel crazy when you have been raised in a high demand religion such as Mormonism. Especially when you see and experience the very high potential for religious trauma syndrome in those systems. Boundary work is very important. It's hard work and why we come to NOM because ...

Re: YW General President's Misleading Faith Promoting Experience of Her Toddler Grandson's Death
The story of this child's death had me staring at my screen in horror. What that mother did is unthinkable and awful. And then to bring up the death of the child in a faith-promoting story is just mindboggling. It's so foolish that I wonder if Bonnie just didn't know the full circumstances of the c...

YW General President's Misleading Faith Promoting Experience of Her Toddler Grandson's Death
TRIGGER WARNING: Child Abuse. Death of a Child. I am becoming more and more cynical all the time. You constantly have to drill down on these faith promoting experiences to find the truth. Bonnie Cordon is the YW's General President and she has shared the story of her 2 year old grandson's death publ...

Re: Racist Incident at Duke/BYU Volleyball Game
Now let’s talk about how it was a male fan screaming racial slurs at a woman. Misogyny is part of that whole scene and why nobody did anything while it was happening. Does everyone really think that if it was a female screaming the n word at a black volleyball player, that the whole audience and au...

Re: Is there value in clergy/penitent privilege?
I was listening to Radio West and they were talking about this issue and had some Catholic perspectives on it. I get it. We have lawyer-client privilege. We have spousal privilege. The clergy-penitent relationship goes back to around 300-400 C.E. in Catholicism. I understand that for Catholics, conf...

Re: Racist Incident at Duke/BYU Volleyball Game
On Instagram Joanna Brooks makes a strong point regarding the fans around this racist POS not doing nearly enough to check his disgusting behavior. BYU coach did not do enough. Referees and line judges did not do enough. This racist should have been ejected. Stop the game and get that disgusting ind...

Re: The watering down of what is revelation
This for me is one of the very reasons why church became so difficult for me during my NOM phase of trying to make it work as best I could because of my family relationships. I was bored. What they were calling revelation was so mundane and ubiquitous. It was getting harder and harder to tolerate. I...

Re: The watering down of what is revelation
I'm not sure if I have seen this specifically but I do think it fits easily in an LDS context with the doctrine that the prophet/president can receive, from God, revelation for the whole church, bishops can receive revelation for their wards, etc. Our own inner authority is constantly being supersed...

Re: The Mormon church releases ANOTHER statement going after the AP
This new statement once again shows in and of itself that the church cares more about it's image than the children who were victimized. The irony is that because they were more concerned about their image and liability they actually screwed themselves over and have an undeniable reputation for carin...

I don't think I put in 40hours/week. I think it was 15-20 hours/week for me also.
