Re: Was JS the only person who claimed to use seer stones?
Apparently, back in the day, everyone was using one of these stones. The essay even talks about this. "The other instrument, which Joseph Smith discovered in the ground years before he retrieved the gold plates, was a small oval stone, or “seer stone.”18 As a young man during the 1820s, Joseph Smith...

Re: DD shot her first mule deer buck
This is an exciting story. Congratulations to your DD.
I remember a lesson from YM, where my leader went hunting birds on Sunday and accidentally shot his dog. He was convinced it was from hunting on the Sabbath. Good to hear that myth is busted.

Re: How do you forgive?
Thank you for your thoughts Jinx. That is exactly how I feel. I have been able to forgive people in my life, it I cannot get past being deceived by the church. This is no different a deception than Madoff and his financial scheme. I cannot move on because I cannot forgive.

Re: Konfession Time!
I discovered that I love iced tea. No one knows of my disaffection (DW a little, but not about the tea) so I keep it (the disaffection and the tea) totally under the radar. Of course, the WoW says hot drinks, and you can't get much more opposite of a hot drink than iced tea. Anyway, when I go to a ...

Re: SM talk topics correlated
Every time I have seen leader changes I hear this same dogma. How important the priesthood is. How leaders are called. There is always a big story about how inspired the leader was to call the new leader. How through fasting and prayer and great coincidence the new leader was recommended. Another po...

What improvements would you want for church?
So, I don't attend church every week, but do 3/4 Sundays roughly. I have more recently tried to listen more intently in SM. Not really for the message, but out of respect for the poor saps, my friends, who have been asked to speak. Sometimes, I'm not too involved. I almost always search NOM. I have ...

An encounter on an airline
A few weeks ago I was on a flight back to SLC where a young woman sat next to me. She wore a long dress and white prayer covering on her head. She was headed with a group of young men and women from her church to Tremonton, Utah. I did not ask her religion specifically, but believe her to be Mennoni...

Re: Turning Point
Looking into the future, won't it be great for your son to have a marriage based on love and interests rather than just gospel beliefs. She sounds like a great addition and companion for your son. Remember what the proclamation on the family says....marriage is ordained of God. Not just temple marri...

I think the folks would act differently with a 15 year old boy around. Probably no oral sex jokes. BTW, is that why you were so jovial?

Re: What are your hobbies?
I have a very time consuming job, but it does allow me a lot of flexibility. Some of my hobbies include: Soccer- my kids all play on competition leagues. I also am an assistant coach on my youngest son's team. Outdoors- camping, hunting, riding all-terrain video vehicles. Going on long walks with Mr...

I enjoy having friends I can listen to and share my thoughts with. We are all at different levels of disaffection, but we all understand what each of us are going through. It lifts my spirits that I am not alone in his struggle.

Great story. I wonder if there are any similar places to live in Utah where the church won't want you?

Re: The big leak
Friends, I believe the leak has placed the fear of Satan in the minds of church leaders. There are probably teams of people reviewing every document, surveying the risk. The risky documents are being placed in a secure electronic vault with extremely limited access. I'm sure new policies are being a...
