Re: Accessing NOM at church?

I tried accessing it yesterday and it worked fine. I didn't have time to browse extensively.

Maybe they are updating their server settings and my building hasn't received the update yet?

Re: Tithing settlement

You can give directly to Salt Lake via bill pay and request that it be anonymous. My understanding is that it will not show up on any ward reports, but your Bishop can still call Salt Lake and ask (and Salt Lake will disclose) what was given. The easier solution is to give in stock. Many members do ...

Re: The Holy Ghost vs. active shooters

We simply don’t have the desire for mass proliferation of guns, especially concealed. I guess this is a US issue, the rest of the world doesn’t give a shit. New Zealanders may not have the felt need for firearms because of the way they received their independence. It was practically handed to them ...

Re: Question about conference

Thanks for all the comments. The answer came to me in the middle of the night, as good ideas often do. ;) I do remember the GBH interview and the “we don’t know much about this or that, we don’t teach it anymore (that might have been the becoming gods? question). But the one I was specifically thin...

Staying Positive While Being a Non-Believer

In a recent thread ( https://newordermormon.net/viewtopic.php?f=4&t=4593 , I recounted a major disagreement with DW. I received a lot of great advice there and the storm has passed for now. One thing DW brought up is she didn't like talking about anything church-related with me because she could fee...

Re: Feeling Forced to Choose a Path

I disappeared for a bit because I felt like I needed a break from the online world of mormonism (I may do another post on this subject, so I won't get into it here). I didn't want to leave everyone hanging, so I wanted to close the loop on this thread. We are back to doing pretty good. Not much has ...

Re: Feeling Forced to Choose a Path

I now return and report: this sucks. Had a 2+ hour conversation with DW last night. It wasn't fun. I was able to keep my emotions under control and she was too for the most part. A couple highlights: - Me wanting to learn more about church history and doctrine (starting in 2012) is the same as commi...

.... go find meaningful spirituality wherever you can find it and share it .... Love love love this list Red Ryder, and especially love the above. I like to ask TBM's "What lesson to get from Judas? Why do you think an apostle (rather than atheist etc.) was the one who betrayed Jesus?" after they r...

Re: Feeling Forced to Choose a Path

First of all ((hugs)) This rough, and we are here for you. Before you chose a path, I want to tell you a few things about your DW. I don't know her personally. But I know some things that might help you chose your path. Young women in the church are taught that if we don't marry a worthy return mis...

Re: Feeling Forced to Choose a Path

A few more for good measure. 11. Love wins! Love your wife more than you hate the church. 12. Self love is ok if your faith crisis interferes with your intimacy and sexual relationship. 13. Don’t look at porn, get caught looking at porn, or ever admit to having seen anything related to porn because...

Re: Feeling Forced to Choose a Path

Thanks Fivefinger for sharing your experience. I would be fine with your arrangement. Every so often there is a good talk in sacrament meeting and I don't hate going. It's just frustrating for me (and I'm sure you too) that we have to hope that marriage can survive a faith transition. I mean, does a...

Re: Resume fun

In my view, if someone is listing specific calling on a resume in Utah they are trying too hard. It reminds me of going to "Honest Al's" used car lot where you know you'll get a good deal because "Honest" is in the name! I don't think there is anything wrong with putting volunteer positions on a res...

Feeling Forced to Choose a Path

I had a challenging discussion with DW last night and am hoping for some advice. DW and I have been married 20 years, we love each other, have great kids, I have a great job, DW stays at home; we are the picture-perfect mormon family. Except for one issue and that is that I am no longer a believer. ...

Re: Joys of LDS Afterlife

The whole "families can be together forever" has always struck me as weird. Most member friends that I am close enough with to discuss parents/in-laws usually confide that they can't stand having their parents/in-laws visit for more than a couple days. While I hope that I am different, I've got to t...

Re: Four-year seminary graduation required for foreign missions

Definitely wasn't the case 20-odd years ago because I didn't complete 4 years of seminary and still went foreign. I thought the requirement was just for certain countries that require theological training. It would be sad if it is required for all foreign missions, even if the foreign countries don'...

Re: Something new to look forward to

Sounds to me like the Book of Mormon done after the style of the work and the glory: With the Book of Mormon, one thing we’ve actually tried to do (is) add a little bit more story,” producer Jaelen Petrie says. “Character arcs and characters are formed, and we go through it with them.” Can't wait to...

Re: Two private jets for Nelson and co

I thought it would be interesting to compare the travel habits of President Nelson to another religious leader, the Pope. One would think that the Pope would have a much larger entourage, probably his own plane (the Catholic church does have its own country), and would need his own plane for securit...

Re: Two private jets for Nelson and co

Let’s pretend for a moment that the private jets are being used free of charge, although none of us really know if that’s the case. It would still be an instance of President Nelson using his power and influence to get something normal members do not have access to, which in my opinion is wrong. Wh...

Wow. Graey, I feel like you and I (and probably a lot of people on this board) are similar. Loyal, helpful, concerned about spouse, willing to sacrifice for others. As more and more members leave or decline callings, it makes people like us ripe pickings for heavy callings. If there was ever a quest...

Incidentally if he is also coming to your stake next week we should try and meet each other. Pretty sure I'm the only NOM here though.
We have stake conference next week, but no GA is coming. I wouldn't mind hearing the Silver Fox "off the record".
