Re: Explain your avatar choice

This is a depiction of an alchemist attempting to square a circle, something we now know to be impossible because pi is irrational, but at the time people spent their lives working on a proof. Not merely irrational, but transcendental , which means it is not the root of any polynomial with rational...

Re: List of people here who changed their names

Indeed; that's why I said "you may". As far as I know, none of the persons I listed changed their names for the sake of anonymity. If any did, they may notify me, and I shall remove them.

Re: What is Faith?

Faith, particularly religious faith, is simply believing what you're told simply because you're told to believe it. Gullibility, in other words.

The prophets are both infallible and capable of learning from past mistakes (however slowly).

Re: Was JS the only person who claimed to use seer stones?

The Faithful Origins and Ontology League weighs in on the issue of the seer stone: "Anti-Mormons often use perceived errors in the early editions of the Book of Mormon to make Joseph Smith appear as a false prophet. But new evidence indicates that the fault was not with him, but rather with the ston...

Re: Was JS the only person who claimed to use seer stones?

Joseph's use of a seer stone comes from a tradition called scrying, which is essentially looking at pretty rocks to try and divine the future.

Re: 3rd Nephi takeaway

I like to call it Jesus' temper tantrum. This sounds more like the "Those mine enemies, who would not that I should reign over them, bring them hither and slay them before me" and "I am not come to bring peace on earth, but a sword" Jesus than the "Love thine enemies" and "Forgive them until seventy...

Re: Praise to the Man

I wrote alternate lyrics praising Russell's Teapot, to be sung instead of "Praise to the Man": PRAISE TO THE TEAPOT LSOF "Scotland the Brave" Praise to the Teapot which poured tea for Jehovah; Jesus built tables for that great Crockery. Blessedly unaware of gods and of Dawkins, It spills upon all pa...

Re: Angry Atheists

Unfalsifiable beliefs deserve little more respect than falsified beliefs. I oppose religion for this reason, and because of the harm it has done and continues to do. Once religions (particularly Abrahamic religions, the kind followed by the overwhelming majority of Earth's population) give up their ...
