Re: Wove has bwought us togever today

Most of us married to TBM's are NOM because we weren't afraid to think, while most of us are still married to TBM's and attending/because we're afraid to act. Wove haz nuffing twoo do wif it. this was like a truth slap to the head for me today. Maybe, to be a little more specific, afraid of the con...

Re: My TBM mom bumped her head on her shelf . . .

Unless they are begging, say nothing. Even if they are begging, unless they are transitioning themselves, say nothing. I don't know that I agree. If no one had ever said anything, I might still be beating myself up for not being a good enough Mormon. Some good advice I got (and I see here regularly...

Re: Wove has bwought us togever today

Humperdinck!

I have wondered about this myself. My DH truly believes I have my agency and doesn't seem to worry about it. BUT I pretend and attend for him. I wonder how it will be once I stop.....

So many awesome comments. I won't confront. I will persevere in trying to make interesting lessons. If the ward complains, maybe I'll get released and that will be one step closer to the door. :)

Re: Zadoks Rule #6

After a disappointing year of almost losing a friendship over trying to explain what I've leaned I've lost any interest in talking to anyone about it at all. I just want to live how I'd like. But. I'm stuck. Good advice though if you want to talk about it :)

Re: What if you wanted to attend another church ??

I dream of this too. I told my spouse that when the kids are grown and we've moved I won't be active. I said I'd like to find a church with a soup kitchen or homeless shelter and participate there. He was disappointed and sad. Then over time he started saying he was looking forward to volunteering w...

Re: Prosperity Gospel

This post reminded me of bishop from my youth. He was wealthy and convinced it was due to being a very rigid Mormon. Letter of the law kind of Guy. For me it's never made sense-how do we reconcile the teachings of Christ--humility, meek will inherit, God looketh on the heart--and the idea that wealt...

Re: My own fault?

If you want to go really simple you could just dial in your next lesson. No work. No effort. Just read from the manual. Honestly, that's how I felt. I put quite a bit of effort into my lessons and thought-perhaps that's not what is wanted. Just show up and give the standard 1, 2, 3 and go home. It'...

Re: My own fault?

The way I used to handle lessons was by swinging everything back toward doctrines I believe in like love, charity, humility, forgiveness, and tolerance. No one reads the manual anyway, so you won't get called out on that. I do think using lessons to reach against something, even if it's obliquely, ...

My own fault?

I took a calling teaching. I've mostly enjoyed it. (I'm non-believing attending TR holding..). I try to present the material in new and interesting ways. Not the same old. I do a tiny bit NOM but I'm careful. Lesson wasn't going great today and then right in the middle someone who doesn't enjoy my l...

I sit there on Sunday I see the young investigators looking for hope and a new life and I feel complicit in a sham, because I don't encourage debate around the messier parts of the doctrine, and I do let it all slide, because I want to attend with DW and not have any self-inflicted drama.

Re: Things Men Sometimes Say to Women

Thanks give it time This turned into a thought provoking post so thanks. Didyoumythme I wanted to say something similar. Yes there is sexism in the church. And it should not be tolerated. And it should be eradicated. And, there's also bullying. And some of the examples spoke to me as that. I think I...

Re: Things Men Sometimes Say to Women

(I thought I had posted this so sorry if it's a dup...) This post makes me uncomfortable. I know you're saying you're not bashing men. But how would we feel if there was a thread like this about women? I think focusing on one of those incidents or a pattern of behavior to discuss/dissect may have fe...

Alas & Nonny-thank you-those comments were very reassuring and validating I, too, wish belief wasn't required. I live in a good community. If I could just be me and be real and stil be loved and accepted without the love bombing or judgement I'd love it here. As it is I feel I have to be careful wha...

Re: Talking to children about changes in faith

I've taken so many mental notes from this post! Parenting gold! I try to ask questions whenever I hear or see something I'm concerned about. Usually leads to great discussions. I'm very open to all of their questions and I'm honest about not knowing the answers. I try to find common ground on their ...
