Re: New marketing manual from dear leader
I see chapter 9 on finding people includes a new section called "Keep lines in the water." It's a extended metaphor comparing missionary work to fishing, in which a bait is deceptively attached to a fishing line with a hidden hook that's almost impossible to escape from once set and that is exceedi...

Re: The Black Hole
I think a lot of those black holes lack Hawkin's radiation, so nothing escapes. I have a TBM BIL that my DW has been getting into the weeds with a bit lately, everything distorted and melded to fit into the view TSCC has prescribed for him. There's no way to have an open conversation with someone th...

Re: The Cost of a Janitor
How long ago was it TSCC reduced building maintenance staff here in UT and started having their Saints receive the blessing of scrubbing those toilets? Like 15 years ago? Makes me wonder if they have the church office building staff doing all the cleaning there instead of hiring it out. "Here's you ...

Re: Doing Good
After the mental escape from TSCC matrix, I remember how refreshing it was to do some service and good deeds and know there was no BS wrapped around them; no points, no record in heaven or hell, nobody on earth or otherwise keeping score, at least in my new reality view. Shifting time that used to b...

Re: Slowly fading away? The future of NOM?
Lots of great points made here as to the value of this tiny spot in the great digital global matrix. The fact that NOM has provided not only a space where opinions can be expressed and respected, but the real connections, the physical ones. I too recognize the tone here, free from the spew of hyperb...

Re: FAIR's how-to-study guide
Good responses, but I'm pretty sure the gloomy part for me when I started uncovering lies from the church was the same as other times I got suckered into a bad deal, or lied to by someone you trusted who stole your money. The real gloom for me was knowing I got conned. The hair on the back of your ...

This is where they talk out both sides of their mouths and always want to have it both ways.

Re: Feelin the feels.
Up until the last couple years I was a skeptic of these things. Now I just don't know because I've experienced some things that feel like they go beyond coincidental probability. I've definitely increased in empathy with my dw and we are often in synch emotionally and somewhat physically, especially...

Hagoth: Since the recipient of your "teachings" has a Catholic background, did you ask her about the talking snakes and talking donkeys in "her" holy book? Exactly this Fluff! I would love to have asked her about all those bible stories and how she sifts out historical facts from fables. ...

Re: So, why did Jesus have to die?
It was a manufactured event used as a tool by religionist to continually abuse their followers into submission with guilt and fear. Therefore, the logic of it does not matter because gods ways are not your ways unless you are trying to control a lot of people at a very low level and get them to pay ...

New marketing manual from dear leader
https://www.ksl.com/article/50672148/after-20-years-missionaries-for-the-church-of-jesus-christ-of-latter-day-saints-receive-a-new-manualI I see you have a new marketing manual here. A new manual? Yes, patterned after the old one we used to use. I have no idea what's in the new manual or any opinio...

Re: Pride works both ways.
Many of my educated and successful TBM friends fall into the TSCC's pride cycle. This is probably the biggest hurdle for them to overcome, if they ever allow themselves to fact check it. The church is true because they are in it, invested financially, emotionally and physically and would never be mi...

Re: Bear Lake ID
We prefer the north end beach, morning to 2pm is best, then it usually gets breezy. We are planning some days up there in September. There's boat and jet ski rentals not too far away. We also like visiting Paris Idaho (antique store there, ice cave up Paris Canyon). Glacier lake and rope swing up Bl...

Re: Revisiting my thoughts on an afterlife.
Well Red, FWIW here's my nutshell spin on this topic: I reject all religious explanations of an afterlife. The Mormon afterlife seems especially ridiculous to me now. I reserve about 5% of my belief sphere for "maybe something but IDK and nobody does" I've read and listened to dozens of trip reports...

Re: NeverMo friend and eternal families
I don't like that he has this false impression of the church "I know the Mormon church does a lot of good for a lot of people.."
But at least he recognizes the family wars that TSCC creates with their dogma and rules.
The worst is the kid caught in the middle of this mess.

Re: 60 Minutes this week: LDS & SEC
Something that I do not understand from the 60 Minutes interview was with the Former IRS, Tax Law guy…he said the IRS will likely not do anything to the church for using its non-prophet EPA fund to bail out the Insurance company…he said there were too many political risks…what does that mean? How w...

Re: Reframing
I do think I've been making some progress on this. I still do a lot of eye rolling when I come up against the culty cultural angst. But I try to follow it up with "Remember, you were there once." It's not just the former church life, but trying to keep my attitude toward it now in a place of empathy...
