“The incompetent are often blessed with an inappropriate confidence buoyed by something that feels to them like knowledge.”

Re: No longer mormons
So, there is no disciplinary council, no letters of resignation, nothing like that. We just don't consider ourselves mormon anymore. Maybe we can move on... We met with the bishop, told him we just did not believe all we have been told for decades (I later emailed him a link to each of the essays a...
Re: 70 ex'ed
My question, I would assume given he was in the 1Q of 70s, he had a Second Anointing. If he was ex'ed and had a Second Anointing. . . . big deal, his calling and election is secured, so party on!

Re: The LDS Church Continues to Grow - Financially
What would be advantage of that arrangement? Millions of dollars could be funneled from LDS Inc.'s U.S. sources (BYU) to its wealth management company, Ensign Peak Advisors (EPA). For what purpose? Profitably trading financial instruments. So, the tithing money is moved to BYU, who then sends the m...

Re: The LDS Church Continues to Grow - Financially
I wonder if there's an increase in these types of development and real estate purchases and if so can it be correlated with the decline in tithing revenue? As people continue to leave the church, tithing dollars and contributions continue to decline faster than converts and younger members bring in...

The LDS Church Continues to Grow - Financially
There has been a lot of discussion and posts regarding the incredible real estate holdings of the LDS Church. It continues it's growth by buying a three-building, 500,000 square foot office complex in Dallas, TX. According to the article Raytheon Corp.'s new office campus in Richardson's $1.5 billio...

My wife and I have decided we do not want services and have both written in our wills requesting cremation. We have also detailed our desire to have our ashes scattered together off the coast of Maui, Hawaii. Here is a link we have provided in our wills: http://www.hawaiiashscatterings.com/maui We k...

Re: Question for the group about when to leave
It’s a myth that people or relationships don’t change. In fact, it’s inevitable. Relationships go through different developmental stages and situations, such as job loss, health problems, financial issues, family / religious conflict or even just becoming a "different" person that the one who was co...

Re: The LDS Flat Earth
Sometimes we make our beliefs a part of ourselves; we identify as our political party, religion and a million other beliefs. People don't take well to what they perceive as a personal attack and consider an attack on their core beliefs to be the same as an attack on them. This causes people to ignor...

Re: How would JS get a recommend?
As an FYI. . . . . I was told by a COB employee that works directly with the Q15 on specific issues (can't tell what issues or it would out him), the Q15's recommends have no expiration date. One of the many perks!

Re: Venting
Linked, I would venture to guess a lot of us have walked, or continue to walk, a very similar path. For me my wife said she valued our marriage over the church, then eventually fully bought into walking away. Our problem is that half of our kids remain TBMs, one is a bishop. Between them there are 1...

Re: Building a Temple in Haiti - really?
Here are proven ways to help break the cycle of poverty. One will note, none include building large expensive religious buildings. 1) Quality education provides children with the knowledge and life skills they need to realize their full potential, and is essential to creating change in a child’s lif...

Building a Temple in Haiti - really?
My frustration as to the church spending its money on temples hit the wall when I read this article in the Salt Lake Tribune. Honestly, what are they thinking. I posted this on Reddit's r/exmormon: Haiti is one of the poorest nations in the Western Hemisphere, with a national poverty rate of 58.6%, ...

Re: Membership in Japan
I think membership numbers in Japan are pretty static, probably declining as people stop attending without bothering to resign. So why did the church build new temples in Fukuoka and Sapporo? Is it just to give the illusion that all is well in that part of the world? Was it to try to increase tithe...

I have a friend who is basically a NOM, he returned from Afghanistan as a medic. We were talking about the fact the church and the military allows members to wear green garments under their combat fatigues. I asked him if he wore a pair during his tour and his reply has stuck with me: "I can testify...
