Re: Other churches
Has anyone that has lost their faith and moved on to another church had anything positive to say about their new church ?? I would be interested to hear it as I am that close to resigning and going church shopping. I have. I went to many, many different congregations until I found the one that I re...

Re: A Week Without G's
I don't have anything to contribute except congratulations. I remember my first week without garments (and my first week with). The period of adjustment is interesting, but after now 3 years without garments, I don't even notice anymore.

Re: Can you please answer this question?
I'm resigned but my entire extended family are believers. So I come here because the church is very much still in my life, despite being a resigned Mormon.

Re: Worldwide bicycle ban?
The sister missionaries in my area always have beach cruisers.
I think that is mostly out of necessity. While I am not speaking from experience, my ex-wife went through a flowing skirt phase during our marriage she could ride a beach cruiser in a skirt.

Re: Replacing the New Order Mormon
I am doggie paddling on the side of the boat trying to convince my DH to jump in- the water is fine! We had a long and hard winter this year and finally the weather is turning around. I have been sitting in my office looking at the sun and getting ready for the pool this weekend. I just had a massi...

Re: Upset by Elder Holland Story
God told me to serve a mission, it ended up one of the worst decisions of my life. I came home after having a mental breakdown and attempting to take my own life. I was very confused as to why God would have me go on a mission to try to kill me. The answer came back: God sent me on a mission because...

Re: I still love you.
I think it all matters in the context of what was just said previously. My mother said that to me when I first disaffected and it was wonderful to hear. I have a former ward member who every time he sees me says something like, "Even though you went astray, I still consider you a friend". It is said...

Re: What can you openly not believe in?
The only thing that I was able to be open in my disbelief while Mormon was polygamy. Everyone seemed to agree with me except for a few very orthodox types.

Re: Replacing the New Order Mormon
It's been fascinating reading the responses. I realized that the title didn't quite accurately say what I was trying to say. My post was not an intent to criticize the NOM board (I love it, hence why I'm here) or even to question why it is here. A former bishop told me once that he was considered a ...

Re: What do the LDS Church and United Airlines have in common?
Again, very different response from United Airlines than you would see from the LDS church. They don't issue apologies. Period. Full stop. Dallan Oaks made that very clear a few years ago. United Airlines has already apologized for the event. That doesn't excuse them, but it does place them above th...

I like having you around, so I'm going to try to discredit your therapist. My therapist thinks I should quit and fill the headspace with something more productive.
They probably are looking at porn. Don't trust them.

Replacing the New Order Mormon
I've been listening (as have many) to the archives of Mormon Expression. I listened through them all before, many of them as they were being released. There are three fascinating early episodes on what it means to be Mormon, chapel vs. Internet Mormons, and New Order Mormons that spawned considerabl...

Re: Finally Saw Rogue One
BTW who would you say your favorite author was? Mine would be Robert Heinlein without hesitation. Starship Troopers is easily my favorite novel, though critically I would say The Moon is a Harsh Mistress is the best one of his that I've read. Arthur C. Clarke is my favorite SciFi author. :) Althoug...

Re: Do people really get divorced over the church
Just like leaving the church, rarely is divorce over one thing. But, divorced due to disaffection can be a huge portion of it or it can be the catalyst. In my marriage it wasn't the catalyst but it was a massive contributing factor. We got married with very little in common outside of our religion. ...

Re: Next time an apologist throws the Bible under the bus...
My post should be understood that I don't take the bible literally. :) This makes me laugh when apologists equate the bible and the book of Mormon. The Old Testament is a collection of ancient texts written by ancient Hebrews. The New Testament is a collection of ancient texts written by ancient Chr...

Re: Finally Saw Rogue One
I went in angry. I'm a big EU guy, so I was unhappy to see that they were essentially giving a big middle finger to Kyle Katarn (in the EU, he steals the Death Star plans). I was also really angry about Episode VII, because I felt that they Zahn's route with the Thrawn series was a much better route...

Total Facepalm Moment
In the break room at work this morning I was waiting for the ice machine. My coworker and I were chatting and I said, "Oh, I did a funeral at that Mormon church on X street" to which TBM behind us at the vending machine butted in and said, "We're actually called the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-...
