Re: Gospel doctrine 2017

There is a new addition to Gospel Doctrine class in 2017. Essays on Mormon history, doctrine find new visibility in official app, Sunday School , according to the Deseret News. For the benefit of people on this forum, here is how to get to the essays. Suppose you are in sitting in Gospel Doctrine c...

Re: Gospel doctrine 2017

You make an excellent point. I meant the new baptized fervor of the disenfranchised. Us. Our fervor as devotees of a system where we know the truth...just like TBMs. Makes for a classic confrontation. Why do members go to church? Guilt, they owe God one. Self, they want to be exalted. And perhaps mo...

Re: Gospel doctrine 2017

If you can't see the "freshly baptized fervor" in yourself and really want to get this done then do it right! For clarity (because after 2 weeks knowing which posts are responses to what lesson will be impossible) petition for a sub-forum called "Gospel Doctrine Issues and Answers 2017". Then each w...

The Hardest Question, A New Years Thought

The Hardest Question: "What would Jesus do?" We drop "What would Jesus do?" on children like it is some kind of talisman: "Look, they didn't get a piece of pie! What would Jesus do?" "Stop. Don't call people names! What would Jesus do?" "I know they're different than you. What would Jesus do?" Want ...

Which are pretty darn thin.

From the looks of them this won't be a red meat sort of curriculum. Very shallow.

Re: Gospel doctrine 2017

That is completely reasonable. I just worry about shining the light of truth in people's eyes instead of at their feet. Someone will at some time tell a whopper because they believe the whoppers. How do you deal with Sis Bluehair when she asks "Do you believe a 15 year old boy could have written the...

Re: Gospel doctrine 2017

The worry I would have is that this would be a thread that would enable "that guy" behavior in people who otherwise might not. A review might be in order but by front-loading you can create situations where folks are just blindsiding innocent Gospel Doctrine teachers. I remember teaching Gospel Doct...

Applying Santa to Mormonism

SPOILERS! If you believe Santa exists and lives--Run away! Run away! Santa isn't real. We know that. You may have a traumatic story of a teacher or brother or evil cousin who crushed your Santasy in classroom or at a family gathering. Sorry if this dredges up bad memories BUT your Parents/Grandparen...

Re: DW renewed her TR by herself

This is an awkward thing. I sure wouldn't create a situation where I'm behind a closed, possibly locked door (without a hostage window) with another woman--I don't think my wife would enjoy that even if she was a doctor or therapist. Unfortunately the Bishop and Stake Presidency are so revered that ...

Re: Christmas Song Traded for Recommit to the Church

I wouldn't be surprised by this, often people who feel out want to get a piece of the action. Combine that with the idea that he is a person of stature and also may be feeling the crush of defections/lack of commitment of members it's not a big surprise that at this most important moment he decided ...

Re: Engaged at 18, but still going on mission??

It's a long standing tradition to get "engaged" (publicly or secretly) before a mission and the root of the classic "Dear John" tradition. Think about when you were 18 and thought your were in love--would you want to go to some foreign place, live in close proximity of other young men, dress identic...
