Re: A silly story and a serious question
A lady I once worked with claims that blessing food before you eat it, specifically the "strengthen and nourish our bodies" line is a hangover from when the pioneers were crossing the plains and had craptastic food. I seriously wish that the removing impurities thing worked though; I always get sick...

Re: The Church needs a transcendent moment
I think that in order for the church to have a transcendent moment it needs to rid itself of the idea that if something makes you feel bad it's of Satan and you need to start doing something else immediately. As a freshman at BYU I took a film class from a beautifully controversial professor during ...

Re: Is there a list?
Sign me up! Getting added to this list is complicated by having a preferred gospel doctrine teacher for a partner since our ward asks the husband if the couple can speak. We did get a new bishopric recently though, and for the first time ever I was asked and therefore able to politely decline...

Re: Going Slow
Fearing divorce with 2 little kids kept me silenced for too long. The benefit was not getting divorced and being there for the kids growing up. But the silence on my part just made the elephant in the room really big. This is exactly where I am right now. Logically, I know I married a wonderful, sw...

Re: The Church as cosplay
That's an affront to cosplay! Most fandoms have consistent universes which require critical thinking! ;) Now that my geekiness has been made clear, I will contribute to the conversation: I have long considered every Sunday a performance complete with costumes, makeup and everything. I used to play m...

Re: Primary Program Highlights
Not to derail but if you ever go to the Manti temple you will see a pterodactyl painted on the back wall of the garden room. It's there, I've seen it. That's the best thing I've heard all day! I'm smiling so big my face hurts. And agreed, temples would make perfect museums of anthropology. Not Buyi...

Primary Program Highlights
Primary programs can be difficult in a mixed faith family. This year, I decided to look for the silly and sweet within the program and focus on that. Little did I know that my five year old would get the whole ward giggling by going off script and bearing testimony of dinosaurs in the temple! ...

Re: Pleased to Meet You!
Silver, excellent advice. Some days are better than others when it comes to defining the divine and my relationship with it rather than the system of worship I was taught at church. I have always known that the God I believed in was not that of many within the church. That said, I do get angry at th...

I bought what I thought was herbal tea. Turns out it's not. Oops. I'm drinking it anyway. And enjoying it.

Achilles, your comment was beautiful and particularly timely.

Re: Facebook Filters
This type of stuff causes so many issues! Because of these attitudes many have been conditioned with a "better than" culture. Even my three year old has picked up on this and started asking why people wear certain styles. This is not how you teach someone to love everyone! This is not how you teach ...

Pleased to Meet You!
Greetings to all! I had been lurking on NOM 1.0 for a couple months right before it went down ant did not realize how much I had come to enjoy reading your thoughtful, heartfelt, and civil comments on relationships with church. I am so pleased that the community is back and look forward to contribut...
