Re: General Konference Predictions

I hope the most exciting thing in conference is announcing the youth programs and that's it. Overall, super boring, so the constant excitement my sister posts about will die down.

Re: Ward Council is Closed (Minded)

"My testimony is like a rock, Chuck! Thanks for asking!" - Maybe that's what that one person wanted to hear you say. "How is your testimony?" is such a bad question. It is beyond personal, if the answer is anything other than "great!" then you can't really answer because it is really a yes or no qu...

Re: Your Random LDS Questions

I like this. Will I have a belly button when I am resurrected? (I hate getting lint in it) What if Heavenly Mother isn't a good cook? Do I still have to eat the food she gives me? When the millennium comes, will you still need to go to church, or can we count hanging out with Jesus as church? Will t...

Re: Really living the Word of Wisdom

My physician says I should cut carbs out of my diet. Carbs are apparently the root of all evil, plus they are addictive and fattening. An extremely low carb diet sounds like a hard to follow word of wisdom. I don't see carbs as the enemy, just the type of carbs. Sugar and starch is not good, but lo...

Re: Really living the Word of Wisdom

I have a different perspective on the WoW. It actually came.from talking with an Adventist. He ultimately made the point that, if we know something is bad we should avoid it. Even if it is not outlined scripturally. I really wish there was a bigger push for looking at the intent and spirit of the la...

Re: Question about LDS Church

Does the LDS Church (COJCOLDS) believe each person has the right to live a life of dignity with access to basic necessities in a safe and sustainable environment? They only plan financially for the future. They won't care if Earth hits 3+ degrees C. Only if it hits their pocket book. Once the world...

Re: If the church were to admit and apologize...

Never happen. But I don't expect churches to apologize. Same reason I don't expect them to "open the books" to us and give it to us straight. Whether it is Mormon or Islam, you give it straight and it will only rock the boat. The dues paying members want a nice smooth ride.

Re: Divorce Advice?

A few things I've seen. Debt management. No matter what the divorce decree says, it always falls apart on debt. Especially early on. Because the loans likely have both signatures on them, they'll pursue whoever signed, decree be damned. Close every joint account you have. Take out new individual lo...

Re: BYU and Higher Education Rule Changes - Freedom to Discriminate?

Faculty and students at BYU have precious little protection from the religious zealots who run the place. Those protections are about to get a lot smaller. This. Even now there is no/limited religious freedom protections at BYU. If you choose to be mormon one day or even baptist, you are good to go...

Re: What Would It Take to Keep You?

Anything temple related gone. Temples are just nice places to go and sit and think. I think they are beautiful inside.

Better music and people who want to do their calling. Let people pick.

I am really not a church person. We tried a dozen churches in six months, then decided it isn't for us.

Re: What does everyone listen to?

Lots of random R&B/pop (I need to stay relevant for my students)

Lots of 90's alternative

My favorite was probably Ryan Adams (just found out what I always suspected, he is really big jerk and creep- NY Times article this week).

I guess Wilco will be my new soundtrack for a while...

Re: What are you reading right now?

In homage to the "What are you drinking right now" thread. For pleasure/leisure I am currently reading the children's 5 book series titled Fablehaven by Brandon Mull. I am on book 4. This is definitely not my genre, but I have a tween and I am trying hard to connect with her. This has been a fairly...

The Son, by Phillip Meyer. There is a TV show on AMC with Pierce Brosnan based on the book.

About Indians, theft, and oil. All in that order. I like it.

I am also looking at Wallace Stegners, Mormon Country. Lots of interesting tidbits about three intermountain west.

Re: Missionaries can call home weekly now

My eldest son went out on his mission about a year after his younger brother died. It was a hard, dark time for him and for us -- to me, missing two sons and having lost any belief that there was any purpose or meaning in the absence of either, it was beyond hideous. I'm really, really, really glad...

Re: Missionaries can call home weekly now

Agree that the old policy was likely to minimize long distance call cost. Today those calls cost very little to nothing for most missionaries and their families. The cost issue is no longer a consideration. I wonder how much is to try to curb the epidemic of mental health issues. On one of his podc...

Re: What’s the difference...

We've had a lot of problems with this in our ward, where little kids go to church with grandma who is a member and they get on the records that way. They'll sometimes create a record in order to get a count in primary. While there are leaders who will make a concerted effort to baptize and reactiva...

I think they are just excited about going to Neilson's Custard
I think it closed in 2015. That place was a dump.
It looks like you are right. Apparently all the youth temple trips couldn't support it.
