Re: Tales of Tithing Settlement
We had our tithing settlement. The Bishop asked our kids if they knew what the church does with tithing. It took everything in my power to not reply with "they give it their investors to add to the $100 billion dollar pile"!!!

Re: Seven Months Down. 53 To Go.
Thanks for the update. Your report verifies that things are similar all over. I'm in the SE USA and see a lot of the same things. Youth Activities The decision to get rid of young men presidencies has to be among the most uninspired, prideful decisions I have ever seen. It's uninspired because young...

Feeling bad for full time missionaries
The full time missionaries in our ward brought us cookies last week and that felt weird. We are active members, attend church every week, and I'm in a leadership calling. The missionaries then asked what service they could do for us, which feels even weirder. Our home is in good repair and we are in...

Re: For those not listening to conference
I can't quite match everyone here, but I"m pleased to report that we only had the Sunday morning session on in our home. Thought for sure TBM wife would push for more, but I think conference is just too boring. We even had our phones out during the one session we had on. Kids were thrilled to not ha...

Re: Looks like the Jaredites arrived 20,000 years early
<TBM Logic> Those scientists are wrong. The earth is only 6000 years old. Those footprints come from matter that was gathered from the ether and used to make the earth 6000 years ago. Obviously those footprints were made by God's children on another planet, but apparently they weren't sufficiently r...

When else has the prophet been deceived?
I took part in a fun discussion at church recently. A couple of us were chatting and one guy brought up how ineffective masks are against COVID-19 and how he had read that masks are like using a chain link fence to stop a mosquito (note: please don't respond about how effective masks may or may not ...

Re: Why is the Mall dying?
If my local chapel installed a Dig Dug or Bubble Bobble cabinet, that might bring me back to church at least occasionally. Mormons disparaged Bingo Nights because Catholics and other religious groups had those, however, there might come a time when Mormons might abandon their arrogance and consider...

Should anti-maskers in youth/primary callings be released?
My spouse thinks most primary teachers and youth leaders in our ward should be released for not wearing masks. Her argument is that we shouldn't have people teaching kids and youth that are openly rebelling against the prophet because it sets a bad example for kids and youth. I asked if if she thoug...

It could be socialism. Maybe the professor's book included chapters on the united order!Just This Guy wrote: ↑Mon Sep 06, 2021 4:14 pm
I think you mean sociology. Socialism is something completely different.

Re: Jeffrey Holland is a terrible human being so it's fitting he gave this talk at BYU
+1 on the musket fire being a terrible analogy. It seems to me, that this man who claims the title of prophet, seer, and revelator, is looking for help in the homosexual fight because he, and none of his cohorts, seem to be able to do any prophesying, seeing, or revealing as to why homosexuality is ...

Re: More Conference Sessions added
Making a general session (where presumably children are supposed to attend/listen) at night will prepare children to realize that they don't need to watch all of conference. Maybe people will keep their kids awake in Utah, but as you head east the session gets later and later (8 to 10 PM eastern). I...

It’s curious how someone I’ve never met could influence my life in such an interesting way. Dr. Ritner provided us with answers as to what the Joseph Smith papyri really said. Dr. Gee of BYU was not too kind with his note of Dr. Ritner's death. http://fornspollfira.blogspot.com/2021/07/robert-kreic...

Re: “We really want buttery soft fabric”
Nice article, thanks for sharing. Hopefully those ladies got more traction, although I would like to see changes at the grass roots level with people being more liberal with their interpretation of what wearing garments "throughout your life" means. It is painfully obvious that garment designers liv...

Re: Three Months Down. 57 To Go.
Interesting feedback and glad to see things are going so well. You are providing a lot of food for thought that will be useful to other NOMers in leadership callings. For the random plates of cookies, I think most people are just showing gratitude for your service to the ward. Being in charge of a r...

Re: Any advice for those contemplating divorce?
Thanks for your response Advocate! I think like you that one of the most important considerations is what it would do to my kids. Some would argue that leaving them in the church might screw them up. But I think if a couple can maintain a civil marriage where it would provide a stable environment f...

Re: Any advice for those contemplating divorce?
Stuck, I'm in a mixed-faith marriage, never divorced, but certainly had some hard times where we both considered it. A couple things that helped me: (1) I recognized that my wife married a returned-missionary in the temple who was a TBM. She had certain expectations, and it wasn't unreasonable IMO f...

Any updates Graey? How was your first Sunday? It should be obvious! When Graey was set apart as a Bishop the Spirit(TM) moved Graey to immediately see the error in his ways and he has sworn to never visit the vile pit of despair that is Newordermormon.net. Or it could be that he's just been busy ge...

Re: The true order of tithing
Rock Waterman has a good post on his blog about the history of tithing and what it actually means. You can read it at http://puremormonism.blogspot.com/2012/ ... thing.html
It should be no surprise that historical meaning doesn't jive with church culture today.

Re: Forced Turning Point
When I was a priest until I left on my mission, our bishop was a humble guy who insisted the young men not pass him the sacrament first. If there was ever a visiting stake leader, he wanted the deacons to be sure and pass to them first, but never to the bishop first. He wanted them to just offer th...
