How do you stay sane and grounded?
I don't know about you guys but sometimes I wonder if I'm on the verge of a mental health crisis. It is challenging living in a mixed faith marriage right, but also being perhaps one of the few like us who are in the neighborhood or at church. Anyhow, I am just wondering what you guys do to stay san...

Re: Racist Incident at Duke/BYU Volleyball Game
Not to turn things political, but it would be interesting to see if that racist is a Trump supporter. I think a lot of Mormons are Trump supporters probably because many are Republicans. But doesn't Trump have a history of being racist? And the Mormon church definitely has a history of being racist ...

Mine eyes have seen the stuff that the church has tried to hide.
It is rolling forth like a stone cut out of the mountain to fill the whole earth.
One day all the world will know what the church really is--a flipping cult.
Glory Glory halelujah, the truth is marching on.

I was hoping it would be a tithing declaration by text or email. But then they couldn't guilt us or indoctrinate us right

Re: Baby Steps: I get to have more agency?!
I would avoid any conversations on it or it usually just turns defensive where each hunkers into their corner. I would instead, double down on being a great spouse. Don't give them any reason to make you out as a poster child for their Beelzebub. Your being a better husband and father should not be...

Re: Baby Steps: I get to have more agency?!
Going forward I think the challenge will be to have her allow me to have some influence on the kid's beliefs. I think she would prefer to only teach the kids the faith promoting church approved stuff. She doesn't want them to learn about the other side of things in case they lose their faith and be...

Re: Baby Steps: I get to have more agency?!
I should clarify, this is my wife's grandfather.
What is interesting about that is that her grandfather became an alcoholic after ww2 because of ptsd. As a result his wife divorced him. He died at a young age and then after that she got sealed to him and never re-married.

Re: Baby Steps: I get to have more agency?!
Here’s a great podcast she can relate to. Take a listen first and determine if you think she will like it then find a way for her to listen. Show her you have empathy for her “extra responsibilities” and perhaps she can understand why Mormon women feel the way they do in your situation. At Last She...

Baby Steps: I get to have more agency?!
My wife has been seeing a counselor for some anxiety. Recently she saw her and told her that one of her main sources of her anxiety was my faith crisis/transition. The counselor told her that she shouldn't be like Satan and not give me agency. In my mind I was like yes! She says that she feels like ...

Re: Feel Injured->Desire Vengeance->Soothe
Yes it does seem like if you have been born in the church, your family and the church sort of take away our agency. We are not free to explore things and develop our own opinion about things because we are in the church and we must always think about what is most important through the lens of the ch...

Re: More lifting from Old Testament?
Here’s a great table of other comparisons. https://faenrandir.github.io/a_careful_examination/comparison-table-book-of-mormon-and-bible-verses-origins-project/ The really telling thing here is how many of these verses are lifted from the New Testament, but included in the BoM's timeframe BEFORE the...

More lifting from Old Testament?
I was listening to the history in the bible podcast and he spoke about The Benjamites stealing Canannite women to have for wives. This seems pretty similar to the priests of King noah who stole the Lamanite women to marry. Compare Judges 21:18-23 with Mosiah 20:1-5.

Re: 4 % tithing sounds like a good idea !!
Now that we know that know that the LDS church is not what it claims to be it makes sense that many here are on the 0% tithing plan. By the way, does anyone know the status of that lawsuit against the church to refund tithing?

Re: 4 % tithing sounds like a good idea !!
I figure I don't have any obligation to pay tithing now since I paid on my gross for several years and at minimum should have paid the way Rock Waterman suggests: 10% on any extra money I have after expenses right? So I feel I'm paid up for the rest of my life. We have all probably overpaid but woul...

Re: Types of Faith Spectrum
I am curious to know why we noms experienced a faith crisis but why some of our spouses or family have not. Is it because our faith is based on evidence? Mine started with the Blacks and the priesthood essay. It just didn't make sense to me that the former prophets would be wrong on this unless they...

Re: Comparing the Historicity of Ramses II and Moses.
I have been listening to the history in the Bible podcast recently by Gary Stevens. It is fairly succinct, but interesting and it does take more of a critical approach. https://www.historyinthebible.com/ It averages about 25 to 30 mins per episode.

Congrats! Glad it worked out for you. I will be facing this in a couple of years. It's too bad they don't allow them to wait until they are adults right? They don't really get to examine both sides and make an informed decision. And if my wife is still as orthodox as she is now, she will probably no...

Wow RR, that's wonderful right?! We all hope that our tbm spouses will finally agree that the church is not what it claims to be. But I remember a post a couple years back about whether we would like it if our spouses had faith transitions/crises or not and some were a bit reluctant. But it is wonde...

Read Michael Pollan's How to Change Your Mind. Hagoth, is this the one about magic mushrooms? I know you have tried these in the past. Did you try them in that church started by an exmo? It is interesting. Tell us more if you can. Yes to all of the above. I will start a thread in the Coffee Shop, s...

I’ll put in the plug for exercise, sleep, and trying to eat healthy. Talking to your doctor is also a perfect solution. Taking a break from Mormonism is highly recommended too. Both chapel and internet Mormonism. Take care of yourself first. I like the break from mormonism. I'll have to see if my D...
