Re: Visit from HT, death of my father, and other things

Thank you, all. We got back home today - 2100 miles in 5 days, whew ...

The services were beautiful, with lots of good memories of my Dad and a brief blurb by the Bishop who had only met him once. Very non-handbook funeral, as they all should be.

Re: Visit from HT, death of my father, and other things

Thank you so much everyone! I'm putting the resignation thing out of my mind for a while so I can focus on family. It just really doesn't matter that much.

Visit from HT, death of my father, and other things

Jumbled title because my thoughts are rather jumbled. Sometime last week, my new HT decided to stop by the house. I wasn't home from work yet, but never-Mo DH was working on the boat in the front yard with a frosty beer. DH told HT (yet again) that I don't have any interest in ever going back and th...

Re: No insulation

When we cut out our sliding glass door to put in a French door, we found that there wasn't any insulation board under the stucco, just wall board. Pretty sure the whole house is that way. There is R30 insulation in the ceiling and walls from what we've seen due to the polybutylene pipes we've had sp...

Re: You have been warned!!

Punjab, I've got 22,000 in my backyard if you run out. Just stop by with your 55 gallon blue barrel. I've got several thousand gallons in my backyard as well. I've got 12 chickens whose egg laying days would be instantly cut short. Given our stage of parenting, we have bulk granola bars, fruit snac...

After the today's international events, this song started going through my head.

Dead Kennedys "Kinky Sex Makes the World Go 'Round".

Re: What are you drinking right now?

I know I'll be made fun of for this, but I've heard rumors that they are going to bring Zima back for a short run. I'm kinda giddy. I loved Zima back in the day. This will REALLY age me, but I wish they would bring back the original California Coolers. You know, the ones that were actually real win...

Re: Laying sod tomorrow . . .

Just tons of fun with the sod. We under-ordered by 8 rolls. Thankfully, Home Depot had some! We decided to pass on the house. Too many issues and there's no way they would have taken the offer. I highly suspect that there are structural issues. The market here is in transition right now. Homes are s...

Laying sod tomorrow . . .

. . . still better than 3 hours in church. Also going to do a serious note-taking walk-through on a house we are going to offer on to justify the low-ball bid. Seller just might take it since it's been on the market since last August and has received no offers at all even though it's a 3300 sq ft ho...

Re: Whatever happened to Julie Rowe and the end of the world?

We did use handcarts and my mother showed some interest in these sturdy conveyances. She asked if I could buy one for my own use because we would need one soon . They're becoming popular with preppers, sometimes under the name "bug-out wheels" https://i.ytimg.com/vi/k_Tew238QXc/maxresdefault.jpg Th...

Re: Requesting a Visit

That sounds about right. 7:00 - meet at the church. 7:05 - have an opening prayer and ask the HG to know who to visit. 7:24 - stop chatting about the Super Bowl. 7:25 - drive to your house and have a prayer in the car. 7:30 - Ring your doorbell! Somewhere in that timeline they may stop for a box of...

Re: Other Christian faiths

My NeverMo husband was raised Catholic. When we got married, the Catholic Church would not marry us unless I became a Catholic, so we had a Methodist pastor officiate and we attend Methodist services on Easter and/or Christmas. I go because it is what my husband wants to do on those days he consider...

Re: Passive aggressive Mormon Women

I've seen very derogatory responses to the women's march from all different kinds of women. I don't get it. Just because they don't believe they've ever been discriminated against, they just somehow can't believe another woman has been. Mind boggling.

Re: Drive safe!

I've always taken "Drive safe!" as someone wishing me well in the vein of "take care", not instructing me to stay out of the fast lane. Maybe I didn't hear them right. While I know they don't mean it that way, I've often felt kind of like Korihor when someone says "Drive safe!" They mean "I hope yo...
