Re: Help with outing myself?
I had a moment when I got through to my TBM mother early on in my faith transition. I shared some concerns with her and she confided she had the same concerns. It was so nice to know I wasn't crazy... but then she retrenched and I was already at the anger stage with a scorched earth attitude. If I h...

https://newordermormon.net/viewtopic.php?f=4&t=3650 I have referred to this before- not sure if the link above will work or not...We had an aggressive primary prez last summer who kept asking to take my children to church activities. I had to be aggressive back with her after being nice way too long...

Re: My parental units--is a visit worth it?
My dad has passed away- but my mom doesn't take no for an answer when it comes to visits like this. It is a major inconvenience in many ways- the extra food, laundry, dishes, etc. But she's my mom. She and my dad worked hard and did the best they could for their family. We don't see eye to eye on mo...

Re: Is NOM really "middle way" to any extent anymore?
New Order Mormons are those who no longer believe some (or much) of the dogma or doctrines of the LDS Church, but who want to maintain membership for cultural, social, or even spiritual reasons. New Order Mormons recognize both good and bad in the Church, and have determined that the Church does no...

Re: One More Please
Just learned a new benefit of not wearing garments this week! We live in a rural, wooded area, a few acres of land, lots of yard work. My hubby used to get ticks in the crown jewels pretty regularly when we clear brush. But now that he wears regular fruit of the loom, no more ticks in the nether reg...

Is it too late to suggest you want to visit some of the outdoor awesome places in Utah like the 1000's of lakes in the Uintas or Goblin Valley or the Spiral Jetty or the Salt Flats or Arches or Zion or Bryce or Capitol Reef or any other of a hundred other things NOT related to TSCC?! Thanks for the...

Trip to SLC this summer
Going to a family reunion this summer in SLC. I haven't been back in 8 years. I started to tell my never-mo friend about the trip and she asked what we plan to do on all of the other days before/after the reunion. It put me in panic mode. 8 years ago I was still mostly all-in. We went to the JS memo...

Re: Unintended consequences of civil marriage announcement
Will some TBMs continue to do the Temple only because as the church keeps watering down it's super special peculiarness, zealous TBMs will grab on to any last remaining remnants? I think there's a percentage there that like to feel like they are a cut above the rest by living the letter of the law....

Re: The Silence (Netflix)
Finally got a chance to watch it- thanks for the recommend. Really enjoyed it. They really wrapped up a quick summary at the end- could have played that out for a sequal. The car crash scene with the uncle and dog was a great climactic arc. Made my daughter cry. Have to say- this post-apocalyptic cr...

Re: Couples Married Civilly Now Authorized for Immediate Temple Marriage
If you'll forgive the link to Reddit, someone there suggests this was a way of diverting press from the Vice News story, and I think there is something to that: https://www.reddit.com/r/exmormon/comments/bldsmr/the_temple_marriage_change_very_interesting/ Brilliant, really. Instead of unloading all...

Her sales pitch is no different than the church. Just trying to sell you an unattainable ideal to hook you in exchange for 10% of your income.

Re: Couples Married Civilly Now Authorized for Immediate Temple Marriage
I will grant that this is good news overall. It also reduces the need for me to maintain a temple recommend for my one child most likely to get married in the temple. And this is exactly why it took so long to make the change. They know that people, particularly millennials, are not bowing the knee...

Sabrina the teenage witch-Netflix
I have been watching this series with my teen daughter. Some adult situations. We get a real kick out of the way they turn the tables on christian worship to normalize satan worship as exactly the same but opposite. For example, instead of saying " why in hell would this happen" they say "why in hea...

Re: Mormon Rumspringa
I cannot speak to the Amish- and how they handle the return of the youth once their rumspringa is over, but for Mormon youth, it would be full of shame and judgement. All of the public shaming that comes with being not allowed to take the sacrament, hold a calling, participate... It would probably p...

Re: Is the church really free falling ?
I live in the midwest/south. I am seeing it here- an area nearby that had to split to 3 wards 10 years ago now does not have enough active members to fill all callings. Whispers of going back down to 2 wards are happening. I have noticed more and more married women attending church alone. I have hon...
