Re: Feeling anxious about new YM/YW announcement
We had to deal with this recently too. Not because of the age change obviously, but because I have a 13 yo daughter. We told her previously that she was not to be alone with any adult that isn't a parent. When she was offered a blessing she "forgot" and mom found her in a church classroom (at least...

Re: I’m back - with more questions
Thanks for your responses everyone. It seems strange to me that for a long time nobody visited us. I believe the EQ president is our home teacher/ministering person. He’s never visited us. My next door neighbor (the other one) visits occasionally, but she always has and it never seems to be in the ...

Re: MTC closures
I guess I see this type of thing as normal operations for a large organization. I've indirectly facilitated the closing of multiple operations locations through cost analysis and looking at returns on investment. It's a necessary thing to do to maintain profitability and manage a business. I recogn...

Re: Losing the Battle
So sorry my friend, that’s brutal. I didn’t want to talk to my parents about anything deep because I thought they didn’t know anything. Just love him, he’ll be back. You guys may never see eye to eye on the church, you can find other things to connect on. I was 20 and on my first deployment when I e...

Re: I'm about to be officially "outed": NOM Crowd-Sourcing
I didn't notice before my reply that it is this weekend. Wish I had better advice. If it helps, nobody asked me why I didn't go in. I was prepared with the "left my recommend in California thing" but only really used it on my teenage kids. Nobody else seemed to bat an eye.

Re: I'm about to be officially "outed": NOM Crowd-Sourcing
I had to do this twice last year: once for my SIL's wedding and the other for my brother's endowment. SIL specifically planned her wedding around my summer schedule so they could have me there. My brother flew from Utah out to Sacramento so that parents, siblings, and me could be there. A couple of ...

Looks like you need some real tasting glasses. I definitely do, but we're in the process of moving right now for a new job and don't want to add more to the list. Though I can't just smile at your reply without saying: A little box of Glencairns would be easier to move than all those bott...

I think that answers my question about whether this comes from the PR budget or not...lostinmiddlemormonism wrote: ↑Mon Dec 10, 2018 11:51 amwhich is interesting since that is a "for profit" arm of the church.

Re: Advice to help a friend
Hi Nommies, I have a question that I should probably post in misc., but I’m putting here for more visibility. I found out this morning that this weekend a (non-mormon) woman I know discovered her husband is cheating on her and was planning to leave the family for the other woman. I consider her a f...

Re: Giving Machines = reverse ATM
Thank you for the info Thoughtful, Ive read the church doesn't manage the donations, only provided the machines. Another charity is in charge of the management. I’ve also read that the church is covering the cost of the machines and maintenance on them. This seems to be a genuine attempt by them to...

DW and I did a vow renewal a few months ago. We both wrote our own vows. Here is mine: I,[Just This Guy], do hereby take you again to be my love, my best friend, and my wife. I promise to love, honor, and cherish you though the good times and the bad. I promise to be your support, comfort and stren...

Re: The Flawed Logic of Governments and Religion
Okay, so I feel a little better now. While not good numbers in terms of reassurance, they're much better than never. The findings on reading comport with some other recent data on American reading trends. Numbers from the National Endowment for the Arts show that the share of adults reading at least...
