Re: Any ex-Mormons who don't drink?
Also haven't resigned, but a non-believer and no longer attend. I don't drink; mostly because there's a history of alcoholism in my family tree. I have enough troubles to take care of in life, I don't need to add to the list a self-inflicted one.

Re: Being NOM is the worst
Been there. Did it for five years and the dam finally broke for me a few months ago. Unfortunately, the residents of the adjacent valley were still at home when the dam broke. The resulting flood hasn't been pretty.

Re: Temple marriages are stronger?
I was married in "the Temple"....and married for 25 years. I stayed longer because of the pressure of CK worthiness. It was that pressure that forced a discovery, a life changing series of realizations: the church gives you the choices righteous vs wickedness; you get to choose between those as tho...

Re: Reality check
All of the things you list as issues you don't want to abandon appear trivial on their surface. But, they're indicative of a larger problem; namely, that you have to continue to submit to someone else's idea(s) of what constitutes morally acceptable behavior. You have to live in a manner you don't w...

Re: Starting to believe
I have a bit of a problem with this "god in a box" concept because that god's influence is constantly shrinking as science continues to answer these "we don't know" ideas. Why is it so hard to just say: "I don't know" ? I'd be curious to know what that pastor thinks about the influence of that ever...

Re: I can't make jokes
It's because you're an outsider, now. When you're an insider, you can say virtually anything you want, but not once you reject the tribe. This is a pretty common human occurrence; not just unique to the quirky LDS culture. But, it sure is annoying.

Re: A VERY COOL CONNECTION HERE AT NOM!!!
Similar thing happened to me on the old NOM board. 20/20, who is also on this board, was one of my mission companions. In fact, I was his first companion/trainer. Guess I didn't such a great job, eh?

Re: Hookers and blow
I recognize Dehlin has been a godsend (or FSM-send, as you may prefer) for many LDS. However, much like how I feel about John Larsen, I've never been comfortable with him. It feels like he enjoys the accolades, attention and dedicated following a bit too much. He seems to relish the creation of a f...

Re: If You Liked the CES Letter...
I personally think this is far superior to the CES letter. It is better reasoned, more carefully nuanced, and more articulately presented. However it contains nothing new and is essentially a catalogue of virtually every complaint or criticism that anyone has raised about the church or Joseph Smith ...

Re: Stuck
You are not alone on this. I just managed to switch to normal underwear a few weeks ago...after five+ years of looking at myself in the mirror every morning and feeling embarrassed about the fact that I still had to wear garments to keep peace in my home.

Re: What would make you change your mind?
I am so far gone- the only thing that would change my mind is a visit from Jesus himself. +1, I'd need a "Paul on the Road to Emmaus"-type of experience. Even if I was convinced that Jesus visited me and he was my Lord and Savior that doesn't take me to Mormonism being true. So I'd have to be both ...

Re: What would make you change your mind?
For me to even consider returning: 1. The church would have to publish a full page apology to me in the LA Times and USA Today. The apology would entail the gross misconduct of church leaders who had contact with me. And their names would be published. 2. In addition the church would have to pay me...
