The faith journey of Thomas Stuart Ferguson

This is a great article about how he started a church ran archeological site in southern Mexico, hoping to provide proof for the Book of Mormon. https://www.sciencemag.org/news/2018/01/how-mormon-lawyer-transformed-archaeology-mexico-and-ended-losing-his-faith It sounds like the church still operate...

Re: Whistle Blower Files IRS Complaint

I was just reminded on something. Back in 2008 or 2009, when the US economy was collapsing, the Ensign published a story told by TSM. He spoke of an older single man who was basically living in abject poverty. This older man lived in a shack, had no transportation, had one set of clothing, etc. The ...

Re: Whistle Blower Files IRS Complaint

What has me confused is why the church needs billions at the second coming? Why not feed the hungry now? Clean water? Vaccinate the entire world? That’s a great point. Everything I was taught about the 2nd coming means money would be useless. If everything and everyone (except TBMs) is going to be ...

Re: Whistle Blower Files IRS Complaint

This will (hopefully) be a game changer. $100B in charitable assets is almost inconceivable for a church/corporation. I recall that Damon Smith book that came out 10-15 years ago. He worked at the COB. He said the church takes in tithing and fast offerings, puts that money in interest bearing accoun...

I’m guessing Joseph was wearing pajamas when he had the Moroni dream/vision. I usually wear a tie to LDS services, but not always.
Nah, he slept in the nude for sure.

Re: Mission rules are now just suggestions.

I wonder if this is a response to the fact that 50% of returned missionaries are leaving the church or becoming inactive or that 1/3 or missionaries come home early, mostly for mental health reasons and for "health" reasons that are often cover stories for underlying depression or anxiety. I also w...

Re: How to Tarnish Your Brand in 5 Easy Steps

Is Medicaid State funded? If so perhaps the state of Idaho put pressure on byu-Idaho to pay for insurance. Maybe I'm way off base but I could see it happening. I mean a bunch of religious conservatives would never want government funded healthcare, would they? When I first read the story my first th...

Re: Breasts in the news

My city is basically a good city. A bit progressive. City and citizens aren't afraid of spending a little money to make things a nice place to live. Generally tries to be inclusive and treat people equally and nicely, but not always successfully. I wasn't at all surprised that this ordinance was pa...

This disturbing part of that quote is that this prosecutor thinks it is the job of the legislature to dictate morality.
Boobs don't even have anything to do with morality. The Utah legislature just think they do.

Mission rules are now just suggestions.

I saw an article on KSL.com a few days ago, It said mission rules are now no longer meant to be taken as a hardline black & white. The mission kids can now take a softer approach at the rule book. Missions may be slowly becoming less and less culty. When I was out missions fell into the cult categor...

Re: Adam and Eve possible?

According to 23 & Me I have Neanderthal DNA. I'm walking proof that A&E did not literally exist. That story makes absolutely no sense. Why should anyone take the A&E myth over the creation myth of Native Americans or the Aboriginals of Australia? Just about every culture has come up with a creation ...
