Re: Early LDS persecution
I was shocked when I read that the Mormons had also burned and looted towns in Missouri. That basically the battle of Crooked River was the Mormons attacking the equivalent of a National Guard unit sent in to keep the peace. The more I read about real church history, the more I go, "Oh, that makes s...

Re: Should I draw first blood with primary?
I would be surprised if they make much of an effort with your 3 year old. They will really start up around 7 when it's time to get baptized. That's more of an action list item the bishop will push.

Re: Dad confronts me about FC
f someone was to confront me about Fort Collins, I might reply "Go Rams!" if I thought they were a Colorado State fan. Otherwise, what is meant by FC? Could be Faith Crisis. Could be Funky Chicken. lol, sorry.. FC= faith crisis. Funky Chicken would be more something a bishop would confront a person...

Dad confronts me about FC
Well, I thought I was flying below the radar pretty well. I visited my parents this weekend and when I was alone with my dad at one point he says he's worried about me, and my DW is as well. It really caught me off guard and I HATE discussing this stuff when I'm not prepared. I don't want to tear do...

Re: As an active NOM, how do you engage the church?
Great thread, and I really appreciate your points about engaging with the church. I have been really trying to focus on how I engage with the church as I am pretty much stuck in for now and I want to make it as palatable as possible without being totally fake. I've found that 2 ibuprofen and a 200mg...

Re: Explain your avatar choice
I love spy novels and movies and I'm pretty much an "undercover" disaffected active member. Culper Jr. is a reference to the Culper spy ring in the Revolutionary War; I read a book about it recently and found it interesting. As for the avatar, I love watching Archer and the caption is what goes thro...

Re: How did you find the new site?
I saw it on ex/mo reddit. Glad I saw it, topics tend to go by kind of fast on there.

Re: Konfession Time!
I discovered that I love iced tea. No one knows of my disaffection (DW a little, but not about the tea) so I keep it (the disaffection and the tea) totally under the radar. Of course, the WoW says hot drinks, and you can't get much more opposite of a hot drink than iced tea. Anyway, when I go to a r...

Re: Recipes for Spam
Yep, we had stake conference locally today and it was excruciating. The same formula EVERY time. They always trot out the mission president and the temple presidency member and their wives, who always talk about... you guessed it... doing more temple and missionary work. Then the stake presidency ta...

Re: Fall 2016 Conference
Usually I like Uchdorf's talks; he usually has a more conciliatory tone, but not this time. He must have gotten a "talking to" or something. Ballard's was of course horrible. One thing that I found irritating was Eyring's not acknowledging the opposition vote. Uchdorf at least acknowledged it last c...

Re: Mrs. Hagoth is reading RSR
RSR is a great starting point. The polygamy/polyandry stuff really hit me because at the time it was new information for me. What really got me questioning though is that Bushman presents different information and context about stories that are familiar to most LDS members. Sort of a "this is the wa...
