Re: -800 Units in Europe
This is off topic to the general thread here,...but how is tithing interpreted over there in Europe? In the US, and especially in HQ in SLC, it is pay on your NET INCOME minimum. And, there are talks about paying "on the blessings you want to receive"...which is used as a justification to pay more ...

Re: April ensign article
So pissed at this. The urge to vote not to sustain the brethren at general conference is getting stronger. As they say silence is consent. Ask this question to anyone: Which is the counterfeit marriage? (a) Two people who make a public commitment which is defined as marriage by law (b) 'marrying' yo...

Re: April ensign article
From the Article linked by WTF Fluff "Marriage between a man and a woman is ordained of God, but same-sex marriage is only a counterfeit. It brings neither posterity nor exaltation. Although his imitations deceive many people, they are not the real thing. They cannot bring lasting happiness. God war...

Re: A Bible A Bible
Do you find Emma's testimony to lack credibility? It's a late reminiscence and much of the rest of it isn't accurate. LDS.org can quote from the same testimony to prove that Joseph Smith never practiced polygamy, which is Emma's testimony in the same interview. The portion of the Book of Mormon tex...

[/quote] I think this is really good. I love it. Might I also suggest taking the analogy a little bit further? Perhaps we can think of "food" as an allegory for other aspects of life-- such as our associations with each other, as well as our families. I think life in general is a precious gift. And ...

Re: A Bible A Bible
I think we can assume that the long quotations of the Bible in the Book of Mormon used the same process as the JST revision, i.e., having the text of the Bible open during the dictation process. I don't think that this would be viewed as a problem by Oliver Cowdery and the scribes, considering that...

Just Curious - thanks for the insight. As for your Martial Arts Instructor - no, I don't think most Mormons do, we are still basking in the light of the Mormon Moment, those that do think we look ridiculous to others reframe it as 'strange and peculiar' which is evidence that we are God's chosen pe...

Re: How successfully do you focus on the bright side?
This week I remembered a film I saw when I was a kid. All I remember there was a cult and there was this one guy who was there for the free food, everyone else fell for it, he was quite happy for the free food and knew the belief side was quakery. I've told myself this week that I need to start appr...

Re: Marriage of a prophet
I remember starting a new job not long after returning from my mission. When it came out I was mormon (this is a country where people are are mostly catholic or protestant) they gave me a hard time saying my wife was probably having sex with the cult leader - which they thought was super humorous. A...

If I could I would open my own bank, print my own non-money, make myself a general, oh heck I might just go all out and get myself crowned king of the world: with mad skillz like that why the heck not?

As Rock was unfortunately exxed. We might get more traction with our active members using Bill Reel's similar explanation as a post to our friends http://www.mormondiscussionpodcast.org/2016/02/post-a-nuanced-approach-to-tithing/ However, I'm pretty sure Bill doesn't refer to the Lorenzo Snow St Geo...

On the opposite side, I've also been thinking about reaching out to a non-believing couple that has been in the ward for a little while. We talked about them in ward council meeting a few weeks ago. They moved here from Washington and she made a comment to someone that it is difficult to be a non-b...

Re: A Bible A Bible
My thoughts were that Joseph was a religious savant. It is not unusual for Muslims to memorize vast swathes/all of the Koran http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-36146637 so I have no problem thinking Joseph could have had lots of the bible committed to memory. Recently I read some rather interesting theori...

Re: I am now offically terrified
Meilingkie I enjoyed the Podcast. As yet you have given the church no reason to come after you. You did say something along the lines of other churches having truth too/no one true church. In my email to my Stake President I said the same thing and it was respectfully treated - I also said the same ...
