Re: death by a thousand cuts
My oldest daughter just ripped off the bandaid a month of so ago, with her inlaws. She wrote up a nice e-mail explaining where they are in the journey without having to go into a lot of the detail about history and doctrine. Most of the family just reached out and showed support. A few, her BIL, who...

Definitely Welcome.
Being in a family with two Stake Presidents has got to be a challenge. But having your spouse on the same path has got to make all the difference.

Hello AstroNOM.
I am not on here all that much, but I am so glad NOM 2.0 exists.

Re: Seminary students will learn that the POX is revelation this year
Its funny that Russell Marion Nelson, Senior's description of revelation looks exactly like what happens to me about work. I think through problems. Consider alternatives. And many times, in the middle of the night inspiration hits me and I feel comfortable to move forward. But I am pretty sure it i...

Re: Pendelum shifts away from Mormon
Why is this even an issue?
Public perception of mormons is actually very negative.
So let's rebrand. Use a different name. No one will notice and our polls will go up.
Now that's a prophet for you. //sarcasm//

Re: The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints
Love this from the article:
Ironically, the announcement came via one of the church's official websites, mormonnewsroom.org. That site and others, including possibly the church's main website, lds.org, could receive updated names and shows the enormity of the challenge ahead for the church.

Re: An apologetic site on steroids - is the scroll of Amenhotep a real thing?
Wasn't there some carbon dating done that showed the papyrus was a few thousand years too young to have been written by Abraham, in his own hand.? Yes. The papyri we have date to somewhere around the time of Christ. The two apologetic arguments to counter this are the one in the article in the OP. ...

Re: An apologetic site on steroids - is the scroll of Amenhotep a real thing?
Even though this is bit of a long read, it looks like the initial part of his argument is trying to give the old tried and true "we don't have the scrolls", so you can't disprove the BOA. So just shut up and move along. Argument. Claim #1 - Out of the four scrolls in Joseph Smith’s Egyptian collecti...

I did not post it. I'll continue to take care of their kids and grandparents, let them look down on me for not having a TR and not going to mtgs... whatever - smile on my face... There is a beautiful Krishna temple near my home, think I will go to that one instead. And this is where the dance come ...

I am now in a live and let live phase of my journey. Where are you?
On day one of waking up, I felt lost and disoriented. I spent quite a few years at the beginning thrashing around and damaging some of my most important relationships. In retrospect, I feel that I behaved that way because I was trying to force other to understand me. I wanted to be understood and ac...

I've been experimenting. I like Dr.P. w/ coconut rum. Mike's hard lemonade is decent. Pinot grigio makes me gag. How does one appreciate wine? Can someone tell me a good wine for beginners? Wine has been a struggle for me too. My first glass of wine was in Japan and it was wonderful. But then the n...

Re: The church isn't going to disappear but they are definitely not vibrant and healthy
Glad to hear you're in good company. I can't imagine doing it all alone. This might sound crazy but the only ones I would even care about knowing the truth are mom and dad. Dad's 81, been TBM forever and I think once they get to a certain point, the last thing they want to know is that they've foll...

Re: The church isn't going to disappear but they are definitely not vibrant and healthy
The institutional church has been deperately trying to get teenagers interested in family history and temple work. Getting the youth to take names to the temple is a big push if you are serving with Young Men or Young Women. But apologetics is a different story. I can only imagine the awkward quest...

Re: The church isn't going to disappear but they are definitely not vibrant and healthy
I think a lot of faithful members realize this. When DW sent her dad a list of questions about polygamy with links to faithful resources - he didn't have time to help anymore. My favorite response from a SP was this. "HIPS. I have no good answers to the hard questions." I appreciated his honesty.

Re: The church isn't going to disappear but they are definitely not vibrant and healthy
The only ones left are my very NOM wife and my youngest daughter and other SIL, who just recently got tattoos. I am not sure how deep in they are, but I won't be surprised if in a few years it will be 10 down in the HIPS family. HIPS, was it one of these tattoos? https://www.tattoodo.com/a/2016/12/...

The church isn't going to disappear but they are definitely not vibrant and healthy
A little over 8 years ago, my RM son told me he no longer believed and was leaving the church. 1 down in the HIPS family. I dove in deep to get the good answers and save his soul. 2 down in the HIPS family. 2 years ago my youngest RM son told me he wasn't getting married in the temple and married a ...

Re: What is your freedom worth?
I find this question interesting. Because my knee jerk answer to the question would be that I would rather resign than lie to get an inheritance no matter what the size. The funny thing is that I am still active at church without any promise of an inheritance. But for me, I am not pretending. ...

Re: The Sound of my shelf breaking
I also love the advice of reading the BOM. If someone actually studies the BOM, this is a fast train out of the church. I studied it cover to cover 7 times in the first 4 years of waking up. It teaches a false plan of salvation which can't be true at the same time that what is taught in SS today is ...

Re: The Sound of my shelf breaking
This is what I heard from Ballard. 1) Yes there is an issue. 2) No. We don't know why. 3) I would like to control your access to critical information. 4) I would like you to just stay within church approved resources (scriptures) even though they don't answer your specific questions. 5) If that does...
