Re: Be Not Deceived

Maybe posters here could bone up on the real Thomas Marsh story and mention that even though it does not jive with the point of today's gospel indoctrination, it is nice to know the truth. Just a thought. Are you talking about the part where the other woman sharing milk strippings was Lucinda Harri...

Re: I pay my tithing first

Several believers in my Facebook feed were congratulatory over this guy. I don't think that believers are thinking through the message they are taking from this. "A handsome, famous, multi-millionaire athlete pays his tithing. He pays on 'gross' and not the heretic 'net'. Surely you struggling, dirt...

Re: Did anyone here get a divorce over all of this?

It's worked out so far with my dear, believing wife. I do like her, but part of the reason I stick around is just to see what can happen as the undercover unbeliever in my ward and family.

I'm fairly unimpressed with alcohol. Coffee, on the other hand, is a much more enjoyable vice.

Just won seven hands of solitaire in a row. That proves it is the world's true game, except for Skyrim SE and Fallout 4. Those are truer, but you know what I mean, right? Starcraft 2 is the one true game. But then you tempt me with Skyrim and Fallout so perhaps I will need to engage in some fervent...

That's tough. I don't have a good, general solution for you. I simply stopped wearing garments except at church a couple of years ago. I also did not ask permission of my wife on that issue.

Re: Polygamy Essay

Yeah, I think there's something to this. It's about building dynasties that push elite men higher up the celestial hierarchy. Which prophet was it that bragged about having massive numbers of wives that we're sealed to him postumously? He was making himself a more highly elevated god-king. All of t...

If you're going to get up to SLC, you might want to stop by Lighthouse Ministries and visit with Sandra Tanner.
This is on my bucket list. She's not immortal, after all.

Re: Coming back to say hello!

Lying to yourself and/or others about who you really are will only bring heartache and sorrow… tell the truth and be open to all, as soon as you can muster the courage, consequences be damned. Thanks for this. Something to think about... I have long suspected that Community of Christ did think exac...

Re: What are the divisions among the 12?

Seriously though, is there a Q15 more left than Uchtdorf? Who is he mentoring? We have seen Rasbland brown nosing with Eyring. Who is on Uchtdorfs side? With grudging apologies to Hannah Last Cornaby and Hymn number 260: Who's on the Uchtdorf side? Now is the time to show. We ask Oaks fearlessly: W...

Re: JS Reference to "9 times out of 10"

I'm trying to imagine the extensive research that enabled Joseph Smith to come up with those statistics. 76.3% of statistics are made up on the spot. :D Faithful LDS members often do not have a background in understanding what constitutes a material claim . If something can be tested empiric...

Re: Polytheism

On the surface, Christians and Mormons don't have a polytheistic system, but we do have a problem with a God that seems to be aloof. There are all kinds of ways we justify this and excuse God from being uninvolved, some are convincing, some aren't, but most seem to fall flat for many. It is interes...

Re: Gospel Doctrine Lesson report

My Gospel Doctrine class did get the milk strippings story. I tried to steer it back to the Mormon raid on Gallatin, Missouri but milk strippings kept coming back up. I don't think the milk strippings story will be leaving LDS culture for a long time.

Re: Bill Reel on IOT - Discussion could benefit from Folwer Faith Stages

From this perspective, one could pose this hypothetical: "How long would it take for Mormonism to evolve into the type of church embodied by Unitarian Univerasalism?" Will remaining within Mormonism, in any way, push the church in that direction? I think the answers to these questions are: "Probabl...

Re: Elder Rasband sucks up to President Eyring on Facebook

You do get the sense he loves the praise and attention he gets as an apostle. He does seem to be gunning for rock star of apostles. Too bad President Uchtdorf already has that title locked up. Let's suppose he is an undercover reformer. I truly do not know the guy at all, but suppose he wanted to b...

This is a tough situation. It's also why I never told my mother, God rest her soul. One popular tactic with parents is to realize that you love them more than you are annoyed by the church. I'm just shooting from the hip here, but I think you will want to find a way to redirect your mother. Don't de...

I love this discussion. But I am still debating if I should skip this class in my ward in favor of going to Starbucks. I'm not sure which one will get me in more trouble, but I will probably risk going for the one involving less caffeine and more worried looks from the bishop.

This guy opposed a real estate development deal and had his temple recommend pulled. Seriously? That's doubling down after far too many spins on the wheel of le...
