Re: DW Digging In Somewhat

This post has helped me think of a few things. Better communication starts with talking. Talking is always a delicate balance since emotions can derail a conversation. Writing out our thoughts are a good idea but can be easily taken out of context due to the lack of emotion and non verbal cues. Dis...

IOT's "Creep" Remix

At the end of IOT's GC episode, Heather put together a moving remix of Radiohead's "Creep" song. IOT has now posted just that remix separately here: http://infantsonthrones.com/i-dont-belong-here-creep/ This triggered a lot of emotions for me, particularly as I thought about my gay brother. I actual...

Re: Korihor's advice to staying faithful

Yes, very good advice. I remember listening to a podcast that used the phrase "spiritual independence." That's what I want. To be able to live my own spiritual journey. That could mean I completely leave spirituality, or just change how I see spirituality in a way that it is no longer the black and ...

Re: DW Digging In Somewhat

Sorry, those two reasons don’t work for me so I would never say they did to my wife. I get that for others those are valid reasons for them to keep going to church. Fair enough - they don't work for me, either. I think the reasons you listed above are perfectly valid, as well. From my reading, I se...

My Beta Operating System

Some of you may not know this, but I have a new operating system that I’ve been developing. A few years ago, it was in the alpha phase. Actually, it is not a completely new system; it is a modification of an existing operating system I’ve used for a long time. It’s been a very difficult process. I d...

Re: My NOM Testimony

Just read the actual testimony part, I don't see anything in there that would catch undesired attention. Maybe the one exception is "God is love". That a rather evangelical saying. But not a big deal. Thanks, I’m feeling more confident about sharing what I typed up. The God is love part is the only...

Re: My NOM Testimony

I just read the first part of your post without reading the actual testimony part. I wanted to comment in part before reading the testimony part. You are hoping to say things in a way that won't give away your true 'testimony' or lack thereof. My hunch is that 95% of the people in the meeting won't...

Re: My NOM Testimony

Amen Deepthinker. I agree with your thoughts about certainty, so I wouldn't suggest you change it. As I told my bishop, certainty is what makes it possible for people to strap on bomb vests and walk into crowded markets. What we need in this world is a lot less certainty. You're brave to do this an...

Re: My NOM Testimony

My "testimony" would be similar in some ways and different in other ways. But, that's part of the beauty of this type of authenticity that is often lost in testimonies that follow the traditional formula. I would have a difficult time doing this, but I think these types of non-traditional testimoni...

Completely agree with that. I tried reddit, and it just wasn’t the same.

BTW, here’s an upvote for you! :)

Re: What I wish I would have done differently

This is a great list, and I do think I have followed some of these better than others over the last few years. I think you’re right, the expression of anger is necessary. We have to in order to get through that phase. There are definitely healthier ways to do that. I feel like I handled that one OK....

Re: DW Digging In Somewhat

I think staying or going are both valid choices, and you should choose the option that is best for you and your family. I have a friend who stays in the church because (1) he thinks he's a better person with the church in his life and (2) he thinks the church is better with him in it. I think that'...

I Bore My NOM Testimony *UPDATE*

OK, so related to the other thread I started about DW digging in, I made a commitment to her that I would bear my testimony next fast Sunday. I have written what I'm mostly comfortable with as a testimony and wanted to post it here to get any feedback. I want to use phrases like "I have a testimony ...

That's good news Hagoth!

I hope someday my wife will reach the point where she would read anything like that.

DW Digging In Somewhat

Quite a bit has happened since I last posted on NOM. We attended General Conference as a family, the Saturday morning session. I dozed for a few minutes after Uchtdorf’s opening talk, as did my daughter. In between watching the Sunday sessions at home DW asks me a question: “Why don’t you leave the ...
