Re: Validation emails

Maybe the validation email should just be a message that says: "You are good enough, you are smart enough, and doggone it, people like you!" With all due respect to Stuary Smalley, that might be too much of a shock directed towards someone coming from a devout LDS culture. In all fairness, I have h...

General Conference Oct 2016 topic infographic

I don't know who created this, but it's a brilliant summation of what LDS leadership is worried about.

Re: Dan Vogel 's new smack down on Brian Hales

I think Hales defense of marriages for eternity is actually far worse than what he denies. Hale's defense of "marriage for eternity only" is a really painful concept. I cannot conceive of this getting taught in general conference or in a church manual. Instead it just sits as a rickety shim to prop...

Re: The big leak

I would temper your hopes with this leak as amusing as it might be. Think about this: Despite the overwhelming evidence against Scientology and being far more oppressive and evil than LDS Inc, the Scientology organization still has thousands of devotees and lots of money. Belief and faith are persis...

Re: Phoenix Folks

I think Friday at Portillo's is a great way to kick off a new round of Phoenix NOM lunches. How about this:

Date: Friday, November 21
Time: 11:30 AM
Location: Portillo's

Portillo's is on the North East corner of Rio Salado and McClintock in Tempe.

Re: Different First Visions Accounts Shouldn't Challenge Your Faith - Whatever

They can say that the various version should not challenge your testimony. Indeed, we have plenty of scholars and apologists who confidently proclaim that. But would they allow unfettered discussion and critical examination of each version of the First Vision? Hilariously and ironically, the article...

Re: Validation emails

My mother has cans and cans of spam in her food storage. As kids, we took the "keys" off the cans because they made great lock picking tools for the bedroom doors. To this day we still give my mom a hard time for keeping those spam cans for 20+ years. She always reminds us we can come over to eat d...

Re: LDS: One among Many, not One above Many...

Funeral potatoes are no joke. My ward does a really nice Christmas dinner for a family shelter that focuses on job training and money management skills. It's actually a really good program and I am certifiably happy that my ward contributes. The organizers of the shelter have annually asked for our ...

Re: Dan Vogel 's new smack down on Brian Hales

I listened to half of it so far. It's a very dense coverage of the issue with lots of details in place. The apologetic response is usually that Sylvia considered Josephine to be sealed as Joseph's daughter but no naughtiness occurred. The whole situation is complicated and easily ignored by the fait...

Re: Validation emails

I have been manually validating logins. I think that spam filters are catching a lot. Brand new domain names like "newordermormon.net" are often flagged as "suspicious" because spam and malware frequently are pushed from new domain names after older names get shut down. Plus, I don't know who or wha...

Re: LDS: One among Many, not One above Many...

The "uniqueness" and "goodness" of the church are not appreciated by non-members. What does the LDS church have left if it gives up the "one true church upon the face of the earth" idea along with exclusive priesthood power for essential ordinances of salvation?
