I loved the post.
I know from insider information there is division at the top ranks. What is confusing is when you have people like Uchtdorf who says one thing once, and then a month later says something else.
Its like they have division inside themselves as well--not consistent are they...

Re: The biggest fear the LDS church has is TRUTH
As a TBM I thought in black and white. When I first started my exit I continued to think in black and white. Now that I've been out for a while I find I see so much gray. And trust me, those "nuanced" thinkers used to drive me nuts because I saw how some would use the gray to hijack truth for their...

Re: Satan Uses Logic and Reasoning Against Us?
OK...it just occurred to me that in the dark ages, didn't the Catholic church fight against logic and reason BECAUSE they said it was of the devil?...and wasn't the renaissance the birth of logic and reason in the west that began to take the world out of the dark ages? Oh my H3LL!. The LDS church is...

Re: 2017 General Conference Autopsy Report
I loved the podcast. I didn't listen to cinference. I haven't since I read one of Bednars books and dropped it gaciously in the trash can. The lack of prespective about balance and priority has been something that helped drive me away...so nothing in the podcast surprised me. But it was well done.

Re: Replacing the New Order Mormon
I admit, I have cheated on y'all and posted on other boards. NOM has morphed into nothing more than group therapy. Essentially, a replacement for something evidently lost or lacking in the church. My therapist thinks I should quit and fill the headspace with something more productive. RR might I su...

Re: Do people really get divorced over the church
It seems like divorce is more likely if the couple realizes the Church was the only thing they had in common. Sadly I know couples like this. You know, Pres Kimball's "any good man and any good woman" can get married thing. I remember Kimballs teaching clearly. And...good thing he is saved because ...

Re: Do people really get divorced over the church
It happens all the time. The vast majority of church leaders attitude is, too bad for him/her if they aren't worthy enough to keep a commitment then they aren't worthy enough to have an eternal partner. It's sickening. But if god is as kind and compassionate as I believe him to be, he wouldn't cond...

Re: Do people really get divorced over the church
It happens a lot.
It usually is the TBM (on steroids) type people who do that. If the man or woman can't go to the CK,...dump them and find someone who can.
I know of several of these families ripped apart by this.

Re: Michael Ash -- Bamboozled book
I have a copy of Shaken Faith Syndrome. Before my shelf broke and I was unknowingly loading up my shelf, I obtained a copy of this book. It didn't have any affect on me at the time as it answered questions that I wasn't asking. I just thought, that's an odd book, it justifies supporting the Book of...

Re: The biggest fear the LDS church has is TRUTH
The church wants it's members to never progress in truth. I believe this is a very honest astute answer. The church would of course deny this--but it is the way it really is. The church wants the power to decide truth--what it is, what is looks like, how it is taught and interpreted, and how it is ...

Mel....I can't even begin to understand how what you wrote could happen...what a CRACK!....the Grand Canyon man...!!! My story is less dramatic, but happened at an emotional level as opposed to intellectual. I had been taught my whole life to defer to authority, and that is exactly what I did. But t...

Re: Michael Ash -- Bamboozled book
This effing makes me want to use exmormon reddit language. I am so sickened by not only the suggestion, but the allegation that we "critics" are wrong, unenlightened, lazy, etc. when we don't accept such absurdities as this little gem from dear Brother Ash's CES Letter defense: Let’s suppose, first...

Re: The biggest fear the LDS church has is TRUTH
I can't believe how wishy-washy the idea of "TRUTH" has become. What is "TRUTH"?....that is, centuries later, still a very good question. I like the sciences because no matter how you stack it.... 1 + 1 = 2. Period. Enter apologetics, and they smear the line, fudging this, convoluting that, until pr...

Re: The biggest fear the LDS church has is TRUTH
You know, with the exception of folks like BKP (who clearly knew the "truth" and consciously taught that it wasn't "useful", using his influence to hide it), I think most of the leaders are still in shock about the dirty laundry that has been made manifest since the coming of the Information Age. T...

Re: Michael Ash -- Bamboozled book
I understand the logic of telling a lie to save a life, but as others have said, its a pretty big stretch to justify being a prophet of God, violating your own doctrines and making other women adulteresses, then going through mental gymnastics to say: "Oh they weren't having sex" (what a load of bul...

Re: Satan Uses Logic and Reasoning Against Us?
It makes me angry when I am told "you think too much"...and then treated like I'm stupid because I disagree with the party line.
When shame is used to enforce ignorance--and a power structure that flows from such control--that makes me angry. Its a form of manipulation and tyranny.

Re: Fallen and Sinful Generation
So a question for my NOM ward: How should the church deal with the concept of sin? From the TBM perspective, all of our sins are already paid for. So, do they exist?...they do if we allow them to--as in living in them. How do we live outside of them?... by learning to be better. I think the idea of...
