Brother Jake Interview

Kristy Money interviewed Brother Jake - thought you all might like to listen to it when you have time: http://www.mormontransitions.org/039-loud-laughter-to-help-you-transition/ I decided this was a good fit for Support - I certainly feel Bro. Jake unknowingly supported me during my transition! EDIT...

Re: Praise to the Man

I could never hear that song without thinking of a very old aftershave commercial. That tune was used for YEARS to sell this product. Shadow - maybe your son can embrace this use of that great tune? Meanwhile, I promise if anyone listens to this commercial (and some that follow the first one), you'l...

Re: YW need to hear from the priesthood

Good for Mrs. Korihor! She is right - the emphasis on male dominance is unhealthy. The ward from which I resigned has a very controlling bishop - some friends told me what happened when he showed up for a YW campout thing & it was so bad, even their 14-year-old (oops - almost 15) hated it. He stood ...

Re: Explain your avatar choice

I was finally able to upload an avatar - I'd found the image a week or so ago, but needed to size it and add text. On NOM, I had a different name, and my avatar was from the Wizard of Oz. I don't feel that username reflects where I am with things at this point. I found this new image - it seems to c...

Re: An encounter on an airline

I see similarities, but also differences. I have lived in areas where Amish and Mennonites reside - I agree that they have strict guidelines on how to live, but they're not, in my opinion, being controlled and monitored in quite the same way. The Amish and Mennonites, although living conservative li...

Re: I meet with the bishop in a little over a week

Well, I get the feeling that his "faith crisis" is something he considers to be in the past. I'm expecting, from what short conversations I have had so far, that he is somewhat like Bill Reel in his outlook on the church. Probably the point I plan on touching on for sure is that I don't see how fai...

Re: I meet with the bishop in a little over a week

Please add me to that gathering of flies on the wall. The official term for that would be a 'business' of flies. I like that.

Do you plan to take along copies of anything to share? He sounds like an interesting and thoughtful man - I look forward to the followup report.

Re: Turning Point

Looking into the future, won't it be great for your son to have a marriage based on love and interests rather than just gospel beliefs. She sounds like a great addition and companion for your son. Remember what the proclamation on the family says....marriage is ordained of God. Not just temple marr...

Re: What Would be a BIG Leak?

Trophy Wife - that would be a very entertaining leak. I can't see that happening at the Q-15 level (I could be wrong) - but I could see it happening at a lower level of leadership. Here's an idea your post gave me - how about a video that shows discussions on who gets to have their PH blessings rest...

Re: Forum Rules?

See No Evil has some good questions - it would be good to know if it's okay to be realistic here (such as using the "C" word at times), without being as edgy and off-color as Reddit. NOM 1.0 was developed before a lot of the facts surfaced - some people still need a safe place to go through recovery...

Re: What Would be a BIG Leak?

I'd love for the Leaky Video Releases guy to post a few that have discussions on why and how the Q-15 finally decided to publish some of the truth. It certainly didn't come from a sudden attack of conscience or a desire to Choose the Right in serving church members. Maybe there's a hidden nugget wit...

What Would be a BIG Leak?

I'm stalking Reddit for the promised leak, but I'm also fantasizing what it would take to really make a huge impact - what would be the biggest type of leak we could imagine?

Any thoughts?

Re: What makes NOM special.

NOM is special because it's a genuine community rather than a board that lacks definition and cohesiveness (I am thinking of Reddit when I say that). Reddit has other great merits - it is widely read, people don't hold punches there, and it's done a lot to raise awareness to the deep issues in the c...

Re: Different First Visions Accounts Shouldn't Challenge Your Faith - Whatever

They should label them numerically - First Vision 1.0, First Vision 1.1, First Vision 1.2 - etc. etc. But - I really hope there are some who had not heard there were multiple visions before reading that article. Just another example of the church finally acknowledging the contradictions, fictions an...

Re: Welcome NOM refugees to NOM 2.0

We are back! Thank you, thank you, to everyone who made this possible! [*]I was very active on NOM during the last 18-24 months, but under a different name. I wanted a new start here, so I have a new name. Red Ryder is right - we owe a huge thanks to Thayne and all others who kept NOM going for so m...
