Re: Pokemon + BYU + hominid evolution
This sort of thing was an impossibility at BYU when I was there for several different reasons: Life must have been very different in Utah than in Minnesota or Oregon when I was an active member, because I just never saw the adamant creationist culture that apparently existed there. I heard members ...

Re: WoW pisses me off!
How did keto work for you, if you don't mind me asking? It's all the rage here in Minnesota but I have yet to try it. I do the 35/35/30 split but TBH I do go low on the carbs more often than not. Also will be back to 6000 cal/day soon.

If you live near Minnesota perhaps we can work out a more direct resolution:

Good for you. I wouldn't tell you what decision I think you should have made, but there's nothing about you that you should have to conceal. I look forward to the article.

Re: Film Review: Captain Marvel
Honestly, if a female superhero film is what you're aiming for, you probably would appreciate Alita: Battle Angel a lot more. It's got a bit of an odd story structure, but it has an interesting world and I think Roza Salazar gives a better performance than Brie Larson does in CM. Also Christoph Walt...

Re: Film Review: Captain Marvel
Yea I didn't want to elaborate too much but the protagonist really doesn't have an arc. There's no flaw she overcomes nor does she suffer any real pathos. Either one of those would have made her more interesting. On top of that, I'm not convinced Brie Larson is all that good of an actor, academy awa...

Also, many studies have shown that regular, moderate wine is good for you as well. So per D&C 89:6, you should brew your own wine to drink on a regular basis. I hate to be "that guy" (well, sometimes I like it ;) ) but every weight lifting study I've ever read has advised against ever dri...

I personally can't stand to watch Joel Osteen for more than a few seconds. He's really off putting to me. But hey, whatever pops your popcorn in the "uplifting message" arena.

Film Review: Captain Marvel
Although nothing in this film will set the world on fire, it's not as bad as I anticipated. Low expectations can do wonders, I guess, but there were some surprises that made the film reasonably enjoyable. Ben Mendehlson gives a performance I wasn't expecting, and some of the visuals are noteworthy (...

Re: What are you reading right now?
Reading Starship Troopers again just because it's my favorite book. I don't think it's Heinlein's best in a critical way, but it's my favorite since everything in it is stuff that I like (philosophy, military tech and tactics, etc).

Re: Define: Manhood
I would think that all of these would apply to women as well? It's a great list. I might add "compassion", "forgiveness"? I think they do apply to women as well. When I use the term masculinity it's more of a classical definition; there's nothing that implies a woman can't have masculine attributes...

Re: Define: Manhood
My definition of manhood is heavily influenced by the Marine Corps, or at least masculinity is. The NCO MCI has 14 attributes of leadership that I've struggled to live up to, but believe in strongly: Justice Judgement Dependability Initiative Decisiveness Tact Integrity Enthusiasm Bearing Unselfishn...

Same. However, if the Lord of Light was actually real, I would sign up to be a red priest.slavereeno wrote: ↑Fri Feb 15, 2019 2:02 pmThe bottom line is I don't really want any religion anymore. I'm just done with that in my life.

History Question
Apart from the initial schism at JS' death, have any general authorities ever cracked and fed members the red pill? Not talking 70s, I mean any in the presidency or the Q12. Or have they vetted the true company men that well for 175 years?

Re: Oh the times they are a changin'
I believe agnostics and atheists get a raw deal in the USA. I'm all over the spectrum in religion and politics, but I'd rather vote for Michael Shermer than Pat Robertson. That may be getting better due to a cultural shift, but there's still a lot of momentum from the days when it was political sui...
