Re: Book Club? The Happiness Hypothesis by Jonathan Haidt

Sweet what book are we reading? Or what book is next? Probably missed the window on discussing the current one.

Re: Greatest Film Series Of All Time Gets Long Anticipated Sequel

Saw the title and thought this would be an announcement of The Silmarillion , as another in a series of films based on the works of J.R.R. Tolkien. While I agree that with the right attention the Silmarillion would make a most bodacious film series, it will never reach its true excellence if the Le...

Favorite sci-fi/fantasy author - Gene Wolfe. Mr. Wolfe is also my favorite writer in any genre.
The only book of his I remember reading was Shadow of the Torturer. Which I did enjoy quite a bit.

Greatest Film Series Of All Time Gets Long Anticipated Sequel

Still, I do not believe the film will have great box office success until they have a triumphant video.

Re: Sci-Fi of Choice

Heinlein tops my list, many authors mentioned here also make it. Neal Stephenson and David Weber have written some pretty solid books. Still love Dune, feels trendy to hate it now but I still like it. Blade Runner 2049 is one of my favorite films despite only being a couple of years old, love The Fi...

Re: Once More, The Real Mad Jax

I just want to say that if I ever meet you I hope you'll be able to avoid the temptation to crack my head like a walnut between your bicep and forearm. Haha, I mentioned this before to Mad Jax. Something about not wanting to meet in a dark alley, but then we could discuss philosophy and theology an...

Yep. A good way of simplifying down what Moksha states is to just think of 2LoT as applying only to closed systems. Which the earth, at least, is not.

Re: How are we not talking about this

One hour less on the block won't put much dent in it. With PEC at 0700, then an hour for your calling's meeting, then set up, followed by the block, then home teaching four families, then maybe you get two hours before a fireside, which has to be set up, then broken down afterwards, you're still loo...

Re: Thoughts on Human Origins

A lot of people say that concept is completely at odds with the idea of God. I don't think anything could be further from the truth, depending on your concept of God. If God is a wonderful creative force that allows for a kaleidoscope of fantastic possibilities and an endless proliferation of life,...

Re: The Root of All Evil

Does "evil" truly exist or is it just people acting outside of currently accepted more`s and norms? Rhetorical question. :?: I would say that's a dialectic question. Pretty straight forward. I would say rhetorical wording would be something like "Acting outside of more's and norms makes something e...

Once More, The Real Mad Jax

I can't shrink this down small enough to serve as an avatar but I'm continuing the Korihor initiated tradition of showing my true self. To encourage the newer members who are starting on the path.

He could have directly appealed to them with his temple changes and said "Look what I did for you with the temple changes! You don't have to veil your face or promise to your husband, it's shorter, church is shorter...don't you see I'm the prophet/seer man!? What did TSM or Hinkley ever do for you?...

Re: I hate to say it, but FAIRMORMON has a point...

But I hate to say it, FAIRMORMON has a point - critics of the Church have somewhat misrepresented the letter by leaving key sections of it out. I'm not going back to TBM status over it, but I think it should serve as a warning that we need to be as fair, open, and complete in the information we pro...

Re: Orange is the New black S6 E5

Mormon characters rarely have positive character arcs on television. And temple garments never get mentioned positively. Ummm, mention TGs in a positive way??? Now you are demanding the impossible from Hollywood. I can see having a positive Mormon character, and there have been a few...well at leas...

Re: Stages of Faith

What stages of faith are you at?
Definitely the "acceptance" stage where I don't miss it any more and realize I never needed it. I'm not sure I'll ever go into a "regret having it" phase because everything is a learning experience and the only thing to do is grow from it.

Re: Infinity War

I haven’t seen Black Panther yet. Good news, President Trump has never suggested banning immigrants from Wakanda. If challenged, Trump might even try to point out Wakanda on a map - although his finger is starting to point to Eastern Europe. If you lived in Wakanda, would you leave it to go to any ...

Re: Soundtrack of the NOM

Songs like this were a catharsis for me when I had my FC, and still are in other situations. This is one of my favorites, for reasons I can't say (because the lyrics don't really match up to a FC but whatever).
