Re: “Find a Husband” Rant

In life, we often think we are avoiding pain when we are simply delaying it. And delay, we learn, maginfies it. Intensifies it. My brother left when he was 16, was open with my parents and it was horrible for him. Hes now 30, and this are finally heading with my folks. Im almost 40. The RM, the temp...

Re: Are Mission Presidents feeling the heat?

As a missionary there is no such thing as free time. The church owns all that. Yup. I remember being told not to think of it as pday, but preparation TIME. Time to clean, do laundry, shop, write home...by 4 pm you should be back out tracking. And it's not just as missionaries-- after we got married...

Re: Soul-Crushing Sins of Omission

...sometimes I feel guilt for not making an effort to try and help my TBMI'm in friends out of it, especially when I see them suffering from it. So, you're saying that this sins of omission thing is a two-edged sword? Exactly! I know im late to the party but....the idea of sins of omission affects ...

Rather than separating them out, why not just translation issues? Anachronisms, BioA, tinderhook, plagerism. Seerstones.... they all fit into this one hat. Same with social issues, like mentioned but you can also add in things like prophetic statements about NAZis, the crimes war, civil war, ect wit...

Re: Priesthood Restoration timeline - Official church narrative vs Historical timeline

I'm late to this party, but this is exactly what I was looking for a couple of weeks ago. Well done jfro18! Three cheers for you! I agree with the comment about adding some context. Competing seer stones and Alger specifically. It could also be beneficial to include some of the text that changed as...

Now what?

So my wife made a post in FB the other day about the churches wealth. Several people reached out to "check on her" including the bishop who wanted to sit down with us "and talk". I told him since all three of us know the apologetics, it was pointless to waste time having a conversation that boils do...

Re: The War Against True Church History

I think there is another group. I think there are a lot of people who are well read on issues, those who "choose faith" that it just hasnt clicked for yet because they are too busy in the church and run too many distractions to put it together and are missing a couple pieces. Kind of like the 6th s...

Re: The Theory of Time and Trump

I am reminded of Douglas Adams great advice "The major problem—one of the major problems, for there are several—one of the many major problems with governing people is that of whom you get to do it; or rather of who manages to get people to let them do it to them. To summarize: it is a well-known fa...

Re: Priesthood Restoration timeline - Official church narrative vs Historical timeline

You're right of course. My memory had that stuff a year too early.
You could use events like zions march (1834) and Fanny Algers (1833 to 35) both of which lead to many questioning his call and several leaders to leave or be exed. If i remember any others, ill add them.

Re: Priesthood Restoration timeline - Official church narrative vs Historical timeline

Id like to see more of the history of whats going on added, as it helps explain WHY Joseph was adding to the story. Ie, antibank fails, called a fallen prophet, competing seer stones, and such. Understanding this helps give motive to why the idea of priesthood and angelic visitations would be added ...

Re: For those who stopped believing, how *sure* are you that the church is a lie and what makes you so sure?

So instead of working on my day job, I'm trying to do a write-up of the priesthood restoration. It is really difficult to simplify it down to a basic timeline, but holy crap it is amazing to read both the timeline along with the FAIR responses. You could do an easy 20 page write-up just of the prie...

Re: For those who stopped believing, how *sure* are you that the church is a lie and what makes you so sure?

The straw for me was the evolution of the priesthood. Once i layed down the timeline and looked at how it and doctrine grew and changed as leaders ran into problems i couldn't see it as anything other than fake. I would love to see a visual timeline that illustrates this theme. It would track doctr...

Re: Why I love the essays

The essays a very, very sloowwly being assimilated into the general membership. I wish LDS were more curious and open-minded, but they aren't. :o I appreciate Hagoth's annotated essays. they are very helpful, and I took the liberty of copying them. I hope that's OK. If you want me to send some $, I...
