Re: Ten Useful Rules
Marcus Aurelius' 10 Rules. Marcus Aurelius, the Roman Emperor who ruled from 161 to 180 A.D., was an example of the philosopher king written about by Plato." His book Meditations has inspired readers for centuries because of its timeless wisdom about human behavior. 1. Understand that people exist ...

Re: Marriage Vows
DW and I did a vow renewal a few months ago. We both wrote our own vows. Here is mine: I,[Just This Guy], do hereby take you again to be my love, my best friend, and my wife. I promise to love, honor, and cherish you though the good times and the bad. I promise to be your support, comfort and stren...

Re: Support through the holidays
Thanks Angel for posting. I'm usually a grump for the holidays but this year I decided to focus on Jesus and let the annoying things slip through my hands. Happy holidays! I can get into the Jesus thing too - the vengeful HF/God thing not so much, but that Jesus guy, sermon on the mount stuff? yea ...

Re: Support through the holidays
What a great idea to make this thread! Thanks Angel!! Ever since my DS passed away (July of 2017) the holidays are my own personal hell. I have to keep my sh*t together to try and give my DD a happy holiday season, but all I want to do is break down and cry and not get out of bed. I'm really lucky ...

Re: Did Joseph ALWAYS obey God's commands?
Interesting - if the choice was a) obey the law, knowing you will be killed (commit suicide) b) disobey the law, and save your own life It seems like murder (suicide) is a bigger law to break than just going against the law of the land. Plenty of scriptures about the Jewish people rebelling against ...

Re: Support through the holidays
I always have seasonal blues. I did schedule a holiday open house to celebrate a saint from my pre-lds heritage. Putting up the tree today. Thanks for starting this thread. The holidays are hard for a lot of people. I have been taking herbal supplements, using happiness guided meditations, sleep hy...

...ALL MEN were asked by the bishop and stake presidency both some additional questions: "When was the last time you looked at porn?" and "When was the last time you masterbated?" ... Will have to check out those books, thanks. (perhaps I will leave them for my DH to read LOL) Haha - not "have you ...

Support through the holidays
Wanted to make a holiday support thread - how is everyone navigating this season? I'm trying to be multi-cultural, will be attending a winter-solstice party, am celebrating Hanukkah with friends this week (Happy Hanukkah!), and also went to our ward's Nativity exhibit - hope to attend a UU service b...

Re: Polygamy and later sexual repression
Is there a correlation between sexual repression and religiosity? Do unhealthy views on sexuality accompany unhealthy views on religion? When I was a TBM in a sexless marriage I looked to Catholic nuns, and Buddhist monks to learn the art of celibacy and abstinence. There are quite a few religions ...

Re: Polygamy and later sexual repression
Thank you for your insight Angel. Thanks - was not trying to scare anyone, but I do see polygamy in the same light as adultery, and believe both kill love. Both create something I would not call "marriage". United in all things - in heart and mind... vs. Not united, hidden lives, hidden relationshi...

Re: Supporting a Beneficial Mythology
When the honest truth is too painful to talk through, mythology allows us to explore scenarios, emotions, and appropriate reactions from a safe distance.
As Christmas comes, and we all put our statues out - our nativities, and trees - some good things to think about.

Re: Marriage Vows
I'd love to be able to do that. Both for our sake and for her nevermo father's who wasn't able to attend the actual ceremony (as lackluster as it would have been to witness). She's never go for it, she's see such a suggestion as an attack on her religion and even if I convinced her she'd likely car...

that is how that goes down ladies.... two can play this game. Good Lord. Red Ryder's I skipped over as soon as I realized it was some weird historical horror bodice-ripper post and I moved on. Re: Polygamy and later sexual repression
Haha - do I have a twin in Florida? I stay after calculating legal costs, custody battles - he makes more, I'm better off staying than losing even partial custody of the kids at this point. At this point, I am not interested in any other marriage - not impressed with that sort of thing any more. I ...

Re: Polygamy and later sexual repression
Stories of victimized women have always bothered me - women need to take stories of victimization - true or false stories - and turn them on their heads if we are to progress as a gender.
Thanks for the support.

Re: Polygamy and later sexual repression
Damn Angel! I'm not sure what to say. Sorry if my polyg fan fiction caused your emotional response. I forget that real people are harmed by this stuff even on an emotional level. Can we dig into this one and peek behind a few layers? A couple of questions if you don't mind. 1. Were you just in Flor...

I think alas' explanation makes sense the most. However, I'll just add in my own explanation. Maybe it's all about the hygiene? Or lack thereof. Let's pretend I'm a well endowed pioneer woman. I can cook. I can clean. I can fancy my fancy to catch the eye of the prophet, the president of the 70, th...

Re: Polygamy and later sexual repression
..." I have had no husband to love so all my love has been for them." Polygamy hits home to me as dealing with an adulterous "high priest" husband seems similar. The quote "I have had no husband to love " hit home - or rather, I would say "I choose to no longer love my husband", or "I choose to not...

Re: Mormon Channel: How to Cope When a Loved One Changes Beliefs
I liked the video. I recognize that there is an angle to the video and discussing his beliefs would be off the table for the Channel, but I like that they are sticking it out. At least they don't make him out to be a complete jerk who drinks all the time and steps out on their marriage. Yes, I woul...
