Re: Is God Love? or is God Obedience?
If you follow the Biblical Jesus, he says that the greatest commandment is to love God and second is to love our neighbor and ourselves. In fact he says love your neighbor as yourself. To me that says you should be as willing to believe in and stand up for yourself as you would for anyone else, and...

Re: mormonism has no theology?
Who is currently driving the theology of the church, the prophet and/or apostles or the correlation department and/or the lawyers? The last I heard it was an old dude in a leaky boat who is hard of hearing, keeps steering in circles, and has nothing to offer but stale crackers. Or maybe it's the di...

Re: Bad movie night: Assassin 33 A.D.
You are in luck, my friend, for there are many rips on YouTube. Here's one: https://youtube.com/watch?v=mp8cn086ae0 (An easy way to find these if they exist: do a video search for a movie title in Google, and use the search tools to look for videos > 20 minutes.) Amazon's scores are crazy inflated ...

Re: Netflix Messiah
I just got to the part of Messiah when you find out POTUS is LDS. Sort of the Mormon dream come true - the president of the final days is a 2nd-anointed priesthood man. Or maybe it's not the last days, the series leaves you guessing.

Re: Unwritten Articles of Faith
This was a funny thread. I think its clear that basically anything, at any time, can be potentially an article of faith, but they can be pulled back at anytime and members will support it. Maybe it's time for an overhaul: The One Article of Faith: We believe in believing what we are told to believe.

which was also the defense the church gave, AND was ALSO the defense they gave when they changed it again. Everything they do is right, even when self-contradictory.

Re: mormonism has no theology?
Theology operates logically. You have premises and you build logical conclusions based on those premises. Thomas Aquinas has a totally coherent theology based on logic his various premises. Mormonism has no theology because it's based on authoritative statements that are self-contradictory. It's no...

Re: Home Teaching Assignments Ruin Friendships
I think some people see it as an opportunity to make friends and others see it as an obligation to be checked off. In all honesty, I think I was mostly in the latter category in my believing days. Only after my faith crisis do I see it the other way. I still do it, but I won't let them change famili...

My wife and I are struggling. She insists the Loch Ness Monster is true. She can’t get it through her skull that is isn’t real. Additionally, she criticizes me for planning a week-long trip to search for Big Foot with my local Sasquatch club next week. You're both barking up the wrong tree. The Loc...

Who is actually staying home. All the trails around Salt Lake are packed with people. Seems plenty of people are getting exercise instead of sitting in their basement. So far I have actually lost some weight. I make sure I get out for a run or bike ride or something every day. You're right, there a...

There's an episode where some white-robed aliens in a crystalline temple-like spaceship perform an eternal marriage for two of the characters. When asked who they are they reply, "As you are we once were. As we are you may become."

Re: mormonism has no theology?
It's hard to have theology when you don't have theologians. When your religion is run by lawyers and businessmen you sort of have to repurpose policy as theology. It kinda looks like this. https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-kRo6iiF6y6o/WwVjE1jnuAI/AAAAAAABtvQ/pLSw_wNMprEOkw4fPINkr58-YBWxof-WgCHMYCw/...

Further, just as the power of giving the gift of the Holy Spirit cannot be bought or purchased, neither can it be withheld for money or ransom . It is the free gift of God. I love that thought, Palerider. I blessed the sacrament yesterday for Mrs. Hagoth. She said something about the people who don...

Self-righteous condescension works both ways though. You think you have so much more to live up to. Fail fail fail. Glad THAT is gone. But there is something to be said about feeling special and having the security that you are on the right path and that all of the big questions have been answered ...
