Re: Returning Missionary Procedures
I only made it about 12 seconds into the ETB video. I got what I needed out of it before the lights in the background dimmed. I know there are other videos of general conference during that era that do a better job of showing it but that video was another reminder that there was more individuality b...

Re: A Reasonable God?
He rationalized that God was just waiting for the time when the (99.9%) white membership would accept black people into full fellowship- any earlier and many white people would have left the Church over the acceptance of black people. And yet people that use that argument seldom like it when you ex...

Re: Returning Missionary Procedures
I have never heard of that.
I don't know the procedures for such things but I would have thought that if a missionary had done something that required a "church court" that they would have been sent home for the council to be held in their home stake.

Re: How inspired was Paul from a Mormon perspective?
Grace/faith vs. obedience/works is a debate that's been raging for much longer than Mormonism has been a thing. There's an acknowledgement that Christ's atonement is vital, it's impossible to be saved without the grace of that act, but also a built-in response to a logical conclusion; if we're saved...

Re: After 10+ years inactive, I decided to return for good
Honestly, I dread the idea of being on my death bed, having denied God because I got doubtful about church money, controversies, contradictions, church history, while denying all the good blessings I had received as a believer. Maybe denying god is closer to not getting upset by financial misdeeds,...

Re: We do not feel that we’re obligated to fill in that box.
If that's the case then presumably they would have left the box empty. They didn't. They wrote a misleading number in that box.It was simply meant to communicate that we do not feel that we’re obligated to fill in that box.

Re: Decline of Mormonism in USA
The article brings this point up; the GOP has a Mormon problem and the Mormons have GOP problem. It's tough to feel any sense of belonging with my church community when the line between politics and religion are nonexistent. Not only do you have to contend with the constant loyalty tests to church, ...

Re: After 10+ years inactive, I decided to return for good
I'll echo others, I'm glad you found your niche. I began to see very good people. I began to see beauty in the missionaries, and other faithful members and I realize that those ARE good people. In the outside world, I often ran into a lot of crap, crappy people, backstabbers, liars, and even stupid....

Re: New marketing manual from dear leader
Great. I wonder whether they'll abandon reading general conference talks one paragraph at a time so they can read the new preach my gospel one paragraph at a time during EQ and RS next year. Because people are leaving and they're leaving because they don't know the basics... the same basics that hav...

Re: Why do brands collapse?
Maybe this gets lumped in with failure to adapt or one of the other categories but another biggie is an insulated leadership. No constructive criticism is allowed to penetrate any of the multiple layers that divide leadership from the rank and file. Only positive things get reported up the chain and...

"We are half-hearted creatures, fooling about with drink and sex and ambition when infinite joy is offered us, like an ignorant child who wants to go on making mud pies in a slum because he cannot imagine what is meant by the offer of a holiday at the sea. We are far too easily pleased.” - CSLewis ...

It will be interesting to see what they do with it. They could use it as a giant bishop's storehouse for Europe or they could use it to generate even more meaningless wealth for the pile.

"Um..." withstanding, I'll let you brave souls screen it for me to see how much of a fluff piece it is before I watch. There's no excuse for what they did to deceive members about how rich the church is. None. Any attempt to rationalize it away as if it wasn't a bad thing boils my blood.

Re: Jury Duty (the TV show)
You sure the guy isn't just acting like he's the only one that isn't in on it but really is. Like it's a plot device to a scripted show more than something that they actually tried. I have a hard time getting around a few things. If I were to have jury duty I'd have to tell my employer and that woul...

They also say they're the True Church. Self applied labels should be taken with a grain of salt.
