Re: Did Jesus exist?

Regarding the existence of Jesus, I think I would consider the source when reading anything from the Huffington Post.

Both the Jewish historian Josephus and the Roman historian Tacitus make mention of Jesus.

Re: BoM

There really is no good or logical reason for not having the "gold plates" available for viewing and examination. If we were to apply the same logic Joseph uses for the "no-show" plates to the Egyptian scrolls for the BofA which we are to assume are every bit as sacred as the BoM, then we shouldn't ...

Re: -800 Units in Europe

Stake asks people for their income-tax statement ...in order to get a TR. Sounds like a clear case of papercraft! Why in the world do LDS people bend over backwards to go to the temple, pledge everything to the Church (not God mind you...the church), and take oaths and promises that have no history...

Re: Why make it up? - the U&T as spectacles

Here's how apologist author Brant A. Gardner explains the issue in his book "A Reason for Faith": About the time of the publication of the Book of Commandments in 1833, W. W. Phelps began using the biblical term Urim and Thummim to describe both the interpreters and Joseph's seer stone. It was a re...

Admittedly I did a fairly quick perusal of the article but found no references to same sex marriage. Did I miss something?

Re: Concubines,

Biblically a concubine didn't have the same legal status as a wife. When Hagar was presented by Sarah to Abraham she was presented as a concubine only for the purpose of providing an heir. So as things progressed and Ishmael was born and Hagar began to despise Sarah, Abraham said in essence, "She's ...

Re: On admitting when you're wrong

But historians have uncovered all sorts of facts that these people, who were members of the Church, murdered innocent men, women and children. Murdered in cold blood. They were ordered to do it- commanded to do it. The Church knows this. How could the one and only true and living church allow someo...

Re: Independence Zion

I thought that the "temple lot" church (Hedrickites) owns the dedicated land for the temple. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Church_of_Christ_(Temple_Lot) Is this in debate as to whether it is THE actual spot? I was thinking the same thing. There was a law suit back in the early or mid part of the ...

Wait. So the theory of the godhead was developer in 1893_1894 and then in 1911 by Talmage, Widstoe, and BH Roberts...mind blown. The holy ghost was not considered to be part of the godhead until this time? See the references from the mormon free radio. This academic research work was done by BYU pr...

Re: The Firt Vision

At rhe end of the day Latter-day Saints aren't worried about which church is true, they're terrified of losing their salvation through the simplest acts. Joseph apparently suffered much the same. So which narrative would your company embrace? I've come to the conclusion that Joseph used the confusi...

Re: The Firt Vision

Respectfully, I'm not as convinced as you seem to be that these statements quoted from the bible haven't gone through the same evolutionary process as the first vision narrative. The LDS approach to the Bible seems to be one of cherry picking what supports their doctrine and then spinning, re-inter...

Re: The Firt Vision

I'm sticking with the Biblical scriptures here, Exodus 33:20: "Thou canst not see my face: for there shall no man see me, and live." John 1:18: "No man hath seen God at any time.." Obviously there were times when men in the past stated figuratively that they had "seen" God. I think the Apostle John ...

That said, if a church or a people who call themselves honest, and true, even more honest and worthy and good than anyone else- if that is the case, why is it so difficult for a church or a people who, when they find out that they have been lied to or cheated out of time or money or whatever else- ...

" when women didn't dress "slutty", men still found ways to objectify women's body parts! I've heard of men in very fundamentalist Muslim countries also getting hot & bothered by ankles...almost suggesting that maybe how women dress doesn't have that much to do with viewing them as sex objects? But...

Re: The 2nd Coming, why is it hardly mentioned anymore?

I think the year 2000 also had a big although subtle impact on Mormon thinking. It was like there was this big build up because of revelations about the 7th seal being opened as the millennium changed and when that didn't occur many, including those in leadership had to step back and take a hard loo...

Re: Showing some skin

The WoW is so obviously a relic of the nineteenth century. Indeed, were it written today, it would decry sugar and transfats and emphasize the importance of exercise. Maybe we'd spend sacrament meeting on the treadmill... I don’t mean to be disparaging of weight gain. I'm a normal weight for my hei...
