Re: The story changes from 1832 to 1838

Do we know the dating of the history and the insertion? No - it's inserted into the entry without any type of fanfare or explanation... clearly it was an afterthought to make the "prophecy fulfilled" angle work, but we just don't know who wrote it or when (if anyone does know more please post becau...

Re: The story changes from 1832 to 1838

Not only that, but in the official history they retrofit the 'prophecy' of not being able to read a sealed book by adding it in-between lines at a later date.

Re: Couples Married Civilly Now Authorized for Immediate Temple Marriage

This creates an unspoken dilemma of logistics. Who will officiate a normal wedding the day before a temple sealing? The Bishop? In the relief society room? The statement makes it seem fairly clear they want any civil ceremonies to be done in the LDS chapel, which I suppose makes sense considering t...

Re: Couples Married Civilly Now Authorized for Immediate Temple Marriage

It's been just over a month since I stood outside and greeted my son and his new bride as they exited the temple, from a wedding that I was excluded from. This is awful, and sadly this might not change as much as we all want to think. The church still encourages you to get married in the temple - t...

Re: Couples Married Civilly Now Authorized for Immediate Temple Marriage

You know who I feel bad for? Recently a new convert I know proposed to his girlfriend of several years after his one-year wait period, and low and behold, today there is no wait period. That poor dude. New converts still have to wait a year before a temple marriage so he probably wouldn't have been...

Re: Couples Married Civilly Now Authorized for Immediate Temple Marriage

Wait until the kids start getting married FIRST under "normal worldly" wedding conditions then going to the temple SECOND under crazy ass, no shoulder, no family, normal LDS wedding conditions. As someone who took this path, I can tell you without question that doing a 'normal' wedding (and it wasn...

Re: Couples Married Civilly Now Authorized for Immediate Temple Marriage

This is a good change that was going to happen eventually since some areas of the world already did it this way. And as someone who did a civil marriage first and had to wait a year (which in hindsight I'm glad I did since it was a year without $#%$# garments), I can say this will alleviate a lot of...

Re: Disappointing Sunday School today

I think one thing that bugs me is the comments reminded me of the bad (inaccurate, embellished) anti-Mormon stuff I used to encounter in the Mission field in California. What do we do when critics of the Church use bad information, bad reason, and/or incorrect facts? I think we have to defend what'...

Re: It’s my voice, isn’t it?

There is absolutely no context in which it is appropriate to make women responsible to control men’s behavior, to blame them for men’s sexism, or tell them to “look inside” when they feel dismissed as worthless by the men in their lives. This is the same as blaming the battered wive for causing her...

Re: It’s my voice, isn’t it?

I've seen some comments claiming this is being taken out of context, but the video clip is pretty disgusting. That said it's nothing new and not surprising. But this quote from RS President Bingham: "We women tend to be shrill or demanding or stubborn, thinking we have the best idea ever, and if the...

Re: To Our CoB Lurker Friends...

You must have some serious mental abilities to listen to the 'critical' podcasts or read the critical sites and maintain a testimony. I know there are some who truly know everything and maintain their faith, but that is a small minority at least in what I've seen. And of those who claim that, when y...

If you’ve ever clicked a link to the LDS website from NOM, they know you got there from NOM. They also know your IP address, because you have connected to their website. I’m pretty sure they know who a lot of us are. See https://www.quora.com/Can-a-website-I-visit-see-what-webpage-I-came-from If so...

Re: Nice Chat with SCMC Member Today

I've always operated under the assumption that the CoB knows who all of us are, and just don't care to bother coming after us. By the way, shout out to our CoB lurkers. Hi! You all really need to rethink what you are doing with your lives. I would love to know this. Clearly most people on here post...

Re: Baby steps - but progress!

That is good -- and it also (I want to think) helps to plant seeds in the believing spouse once they see that these things are not destructive that maybe the outside world is not the big, scary place the church wants us to believe it is. Congrats on the win -- it might seem small to those outside of...

Re: Church close to finalizing $129 million deal for office high rise in London

For claiming to be lead by someone who eschewed material possessions and said to not lay up treasure in this world but in the next, the Church sure owns a lot of real estate and commercial enterprises. The fact that an organization that claims to be lead by Christ is so money-obsessed is in no smal...

Re: Chastity & Celibacy for LDS Gays

It's not just Mormons that do this - Catholics also take the approach of "be gay all you want but don't you dare act on it." It's a horrible policy especially given what we now know about genetics and that it has become unmistakable that being gay is not a choice and that it is the way you are made/...

Re: I have anger issues and need professional help!

In the meantime - if God really wanted us to have a lot of kids, why did He make garments such a deterrent? They are the most unsexy underwear in all of creation. He really didn't think that one through. This has been my thought all along. I was not raised in the church and no one bothered to tell ...
