Church payroll vs GA stipend
A few years ago, long time First Presidency secretary Brook P. Hales was called at the age of 62 to be a General Authority Seventy. As a secretary he would have been a paid employee of the church. After becoming a GA70, I assume he continued to receive funding. Is this a common thing? Does the churc...

I have not seen the new flag. Does it have a picture of the SL temple on it or a picture of a prophet?

Re: Can girls pass the sacrament?
There is no doctrinal reason women cannot hold the priesthood as well as pass the sacrament. My understanding is that in some wards girls are passing the sacrament to women in the Mothers rooms and other areas.
I think girls will be allowed to pass the sacrament in the next 5 years.

Re: Youth activities
All I have heard is it is a fiasco most places since 1) BSA was removed, 2) New program installed (not sure if installed is the word), 3) Removed the YM President and made the bishop over all the YM activities.

Re: 22 Months Down. 38 To Go.
Love to hear from you Bishop. Why do you suppose so many people are needy? (Not always financially) It seems like the church wants people to be self efficient, yet at the same time wants them to be completely dependent on the church.

Re: O.T. Prophets who messed up.
There are several examples in the Old Testament of prophets made mistakes. There is the story of Gandalf going to get advice from Saruman and does not recognize he has turned to evil and Gandalf gets trapped on top of the tower. There is also the many sins of King Joffrey Baratheon. And also, let’s ...

Reconciling the new temple teachings and literalism
I have not been to the temple in a while, but it appears the new temple changes included a message that the temple endowment is symbolic. I read that to be metaphorical as well. The endowment explains about the creation and life of Adam and Eve. Are we supposed to believe this creation is symbolic o...

Re: Ancient religion vs. modern religion
What is your ultimate desire for religion? Should all religions fall and people recognize that all religion is man made? Without religion, what would humankind replace religion with?

Re: Anyone want to discuss the changes to the temple?
Does the slideshow make a beep sound when it is time to move to the next slide? Does the church try to make it sound like a covenant to wear garments 24/7? Remember wearing garments was only an instruction. Are you stuck back in the days of the flannelboard? :) Ahh yes, the flannel board. As a kid,...

Re: The Great Apostasy didn’t really happen according to new Maxwell Institute book.
It's crazy that this is coming from the Maxwell Institute because as has already been said in the thread, if you take this one step further the entire need for Mormonism crumbles and undercuts Joseph Smith's First Vision claims as well. Not that most members will ever read the book, but it's amazin...

Re: Noah and the Flood
Noah and the ark was my first real broken shelf. Mid 40’s and I finally allowed myself to analyze this story and agree that there was no way all of the animals on earth could fit in that boat. I allowed myself to believe this must be a symbolic story…then I moved on to Adam and Eve…. I think for ma...

Re: The Great Apostasy didn’t really happen according to new Maxwell Institute book.
I think this is just another story of the church doctrine collapsing from within. There are plenty of examples, but a few include: 1) Book of Abraham- the church held onto the theory that the BoA was translated directly from the papyrus….until it finally agreed with Egyptologists that the papyrus wa...

The Great Apostasy didn’t really happen according to new Maxwell Institute book.
The SLTrib ran an article today from Peggy Fletcher-Stack about a new book out of the Maxwell Institute explaining that Mormons get the Great Apostasy wrong. Here are some excerpts. Let the gaslighting from TBMs begin. “Latter-day Saints generally believe that Jesus established a church during his m...

Don’t forget that young women can now hand out towels at the temple baptistery. Big steps.
