Re: Direct tithing payment question

Hey Hagoth. The other thing to remember is that if the bishop wants to see what is being paid, he only needs to ask the COB and they will tell him regardless of what process you go through. Gross. Here is the story behind this comment. I set up my boss to pay tithing directly to the church a few ye...

Re: Guess who the new GD teacher is in our ward?

ME! Just called a few weeks ago and I actually accepted. Never taught it before, ever. First lesson last Sunday went pretty well. The next one is going to be more difficult, about the "mantle" of prophets. I'm teaching every other week, so that should help me recover better before teaching the next...

Re: What has given me renewed strength as a NOM

Good for you. For some who I opened up to early on, it caused a lot of pain and strained relationships. So moved a lot slower after that. But I always wanted to be authentic in my relationships so I dropped lots and lots of clues and I never said anything I didn't believe in. Even though my kids nev...

Re: Direct tithing payment question

Of course we all know the best way to remain anonymous is to not give a giant real-estate corporation any money. Yup, this is another baby step toward that. The Hagoth family will now be donating just enough to stock one COB desk with paperclips. Hey Hagoth. The other thing to remember is...

Re: "Why don't you want to believe?"

I hate this line of thought. The bottom line is that we have ample records/history of Joseph Smith and the church to know it's not true. It isn't an issue of "not wanting" to believe. This isn't an issue of faith. I never had a problem believing in what I can't see, but I do have a problem believin...

Hello Unsure23.

Welcome. You are definitely not alone in the journey.

I continue to attend church and support my wife. I woke up a bit more than 8 years ago and I promise that the journey gets better.

Just go slow. Take your time. You always have tomorrow.

All the best.

Re: Elder Cook to Take on Church History Questions!

I will be curious of Quentin's answer will be anything different than this. 1) We don't know everything and you just need to have faith until the Lord reveals more, in his due time. 2) Questions are good. Doubt is bad. Just trust our answers, even if we don't have any good ones. 3) This is a great t...

Re: Did Horse mean Horse to Joseph Smith?

There is only one reason to change the meaning of words. Their actual definition means that what you believe is NOT true. And for most mormons the only thing that cannot change in their life is their belief that the mormon church is true. And if that is at risk, then anything can be put on the altar...

I understand what you are going through and you have my full sympathy and compassion. You can only do what you can do. I am about 9 years into this journey and my wife has yet to read any of my issues. I actually wrote a 170 page power point presentation and offered it to her so she could know where...

For those who may be interested. Here is a good book on biblical archeology. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B000FBJG86/ref=dp-kindle-redirect?_encoding=UTF8&btkr=1 Short Story: No evidence of the exodus or living in the desert for 40 years with hundreds of thousands of people, etc. Lots of evidence of ev...

Re: Coyote Gulch in Escalante

I had an amazing weekend camping in Coyote Gulch. Couldn't ask for a better view rolling out of bed and having front row seat to Jacob Hamblin Arch. I recommend it to those who are adventurous but haven't seen it. So we did go the sneaker route and there were ropes already in place on the final des...

I have asked that question of TBMs and the answer is, "Duh, because he was a prophet!"
The mormon answer to everything when all else fails is just that. "Magic". :-)

Re: Brushes with "the other side"?

I have a co-worker that loved to go ghost hunting. She would visit graveyards and talk to graves asking questions. She would record her conversations and then go back and listen if any one answered her. I would listen to her recordings and there were audible voices there. The voices would respond co...

Clearly JS didn't just sit down and start copying out of the late war straight into the book of mormon. Nor did he do a book report on the structure of the late war and then rewrite it into the book of mormon. But it is highly strange that language similarities do show up. http://wordtree.org/thelat...

Mormons as a group are only average in their ability to generate income in the americas.

So if there really are economic blessings tied to tithing mormons aren't doing it right. :-)

Weird question I know...but just wondering if anyone on here has taken the shortcut that drops you down into Coyote Gulch? I have entered from Hurricane Wash trailhead but it's a long walk just to get inside the Gorge. My main question is if the shortcut is doable for two 49 year old guys with back...

I am sure I am not the fist to think this but I feel like I can really, really identify with the people who saw the emperor had no clothes more than when I heard that story in grade school. Here's a sample convorsation between me and a True Believing Citizen: I love this dialogue. Here is a convers...
