If I could ask them one question . . . Come Follow Me, Lesson 36

I normally post these the Sunday before the Church's scheduled week for the lesson, but I'm going hiking, so I'll be off the grid. Enjoy! Re: If I could ask them one question . . . Come Follow Me, Lesson 32

The correlated material in "Come Follow Me" is really thin. The LDS church tries to pull out principles that show the LDS church to be true and relevant. But the church will be winning no awards for theological depth. There is virtually none. Your commentary provides some depth that is a breath of ...

Re: If I could ask them one question . . . Come Follow Me, Lesson 32

I wanted to acknowledge how much I appreciate the work that annotatedbom puts into these presentations each week. My family is doing home church and I try to use each Come Follow Me commentary to move the direction a bit away from the Orthodox LDS view. The CFM lesson manual is really simplistic an...

Re: God vs Evolution vs middle land

Do you find space for a supreme being, or evolution only or belief in another earthly God? I have no belief left in a supreme being (except maybe my wife). I do have a faith though. I trust that If there is a God worthy of worship, that they’ll have no concern that I was not able to believe in an e...

Re: God vs Evolution vs middle land

I think no one knows And this is probably the most important thing to know about God (or whatever). A personal experience is just that. Anyone who tells you what God wants YOU to do should be ignored, because it always turns out that God wants you to part with your money. I’m sorry Hagoth, but I mu...

Re: If I could ask them one question . . . Come Follow Me, Lesson 29

I don't know if this is the right place for this discussion but you brought it up! :D Chiasmus is a big one with my FIL. It's slam dunk proof to him that the BoM is true. I've seen folks in the exmo/nom community dismiss chiasmus with a hand wave but I've never seen a thorough discussion on the top...

Re: If I could ask them one question . . . Come Follow Me, Lesson 25

Now there will be an objection that similar ideas have been found outside the church, so it can't be faulted - it's partly a product of it's time. My responses: 1. If the prophets can't detect that they're spreading harmful falsehoods, then what are they for? (Hat tip Ricky Gervais.) 2. The false i...

Re: If I could ask them one question . . . Come Follow Me, Lesson 25

What if someone took Brigham Young at his word and beheaded a mixed race family because, according to a prophet of God, it would be showing them the greatest kindness and mercy. What if you heard a voice in your head telling you to sacrifice your son by stabbing him and cutting his throat? Isaac wa...
