Re: FIL sent an email - exactly what I expected

I do want to spend more time outside. If you are in Northern Utah there are a few of us NOMs who get together a couple of times per month and hike local canyons on the Watsach front early Saturday or Sunday mornings. We’ve done Parish, Baer, Adams, lake Blance, etc. You (or anyone for that matter) ...

Re: FIL sent an email - exactly what I expected

So, my wife and I discussed his letter last night. It started with a question from her asking if I was okay. I asked her what she meant, and she confirmed that she meant was I okay after reading her dad's letter. Turns out she spoke with him on the phone before he sent it. She specifically asked him...

Re: In Which I Justify Watching a Rated R Movie

Yes! Where is the agency? If I was in tune with the spirit, wouldn't I notice when that spirit was gone? Is it really so hard to imagine that I'd be able to discern those things on my own? Why do I need somebody sitting in SLC to tell me what the rules are and then what the new rules are after that ...

Re: FIL sent an email - exactly what I expected

I really feel for you in this experience. Sadly I was that FIL about five years ago when my SIL resigned from the church and had my sweet daughter unsure of where her eternal life would end up. There were some uncomfortable conversations where I was condescending and arrogant in my assessment of wh...

Re: FIL sent an email - exactly what I expected

On another note your FIL is correct here. The pressure on your wife to keep things at a spiritual normal for the kids, doing it by herself, will be significantly higher than before. An example would be her trip to the temple, alone, for some spiritual reinforcement. This is by far the most difficul...

Re: FIL sent an email - exactly what I expected

Thank you, all of you. Glad once again that I found this group to confide in, rant to, and commiserate with. I am working on finding out what this means for me and who I am now. The only things I do know are that I still love my wife, kids, and family. I hope they'll love me back. So far, he's the o...

Re: New member of the group

Welcome, I'm fairly new here as well. I've been mentally out for a few years, announced to my family a week ago that I'm not coming back. It's been a very welcoming group. I have not dealt with depression as you have, so the depression associated with my faith crisis was a bit of a shock to me.

FIL sent an email - exactly what I expected

Like the topic says, this is almost exactly what I expected. This is one of two conversations that I have dreaded the most, after the discussion with my wife. I knew he would offer veiled threats and then bear testimony. This pretty much defines him: Part of me wants slap you & wake you up, part of ...

Re: I want to leave this Mormon bubble and travel the world. Would love some advice and support

Even when I was TBM I didn't want to stay in the bubble. The Army was my way out. Worked for me, but certainly isn't the answer for everyone.

Re: Believing DW asked for CES letter

Let me just point out again something that I've observed and pointed out a number of times: In general men tend to find the CES Letter more convincing and damning than women do. Many women shrug off the CES Letter as insignificant while many men laud its praises. There are many exceptions certainly...

Re: Glad I found this group

Thanks all, I appreciate the responses. To be clear, I've told my wife and kids, immediate family that I'm not going back to church except to support wife/kids in specific events (baptism, mission farewells, etc.). Wasn't sure if just telling my wife and kids that I don't believe the gospel is true ...

Believing DW asked for CES letter

I was in bed reading the CES letter on my phone last night. She scooted over to see what I was reading and I told her she probably didn't want to read it. She asked what it was and I explained it a bit. She respects my decision to leave the church, even if she doesn't understand it. However, she's w...

Re: Glad I found this group

Welcome. I don't come around here much anymore but NOM 1.0 was seriously a life saver. Good luck on the journey. I am curious how that will all play out for you. I am an active non believer. Some days feel fine and others feel like I am done. There is so much Mormonism in my blood and culture. I am...

Re: Glad I found this group

It’s been a stressful week, to be sure. It’s been 5 days since sending my letter to parents and family on both sides. So far, my Exmo (everyone else in the family is very TBM) brother has been great, my sister-in-law and her husband said they love me no matter what and will pray for our family. Just...

McDonalds coffee is. Had an Americano this morning that tasted like it was filtered through old cigarettes.

Re: First Vision

I find it interesting that the God is the same yesterday, today, and forever - except when he isn't. He appeared to several people, evidently, in the New England area for a few years and then stopped. Just starting to recognize all of the inconsistency.

First Vision

Okay, so as I said in my intro post, I'm still finding out a lot about problems with the official line. I'm still trying to validate everything I see that concerns me with the church with official church publications and positions. It's rather frustrating to see how wrong I've been this whole time. ...

Re: Glad I found this group

Thanks. I just got to a point where I figured if my little brother could do it at 18-19 years old with no support, I could get through it. Scariest part was talking to my wife about it. It was a huge boost that when I started talking about my struggles with testimony and that I wasn't sure if I beli...
