Re: Elder Holland Withdraws Fantastic Missionary Story

Dodo  I dont get the whole spirit of discernment concern everyone has. Am I the only one here who grew up acknowledging that a lot of these stories were 100% embellished or possibly fake? Maybe I was always a cynical person. It never bothered me, it was what it was, a story designed to get a r...

Re: Elder Holland Withdraws Fantastic Missionary Story

I know without a shadow of a doubt and testify with every fiber of my being from the bottom of my heart that there are a lot of people at mormonlight.org who owe Jeremy Amonson an apology.

Re: GA fireside review

- TSM is very frail physically, and has dementia/Alzheimer's now. ("His body is failing. His memory is fading.") May or may not reach 90. GA described it as the Lord "squeezing every last drop" out of the prophet. What in the hell is God squeezing out of TSM? Excellent question. In his current stat...

Re: Elder Holland Withdraws Fantastic Missionary Story

I mean, go back to what he said about the story in what was dubbed "The Missionary Speech of All Time" - doesn't it sound like he doesn't know much about the Holy Ghost? Isn't it weird he said the Holy Ghost did all this stuff that it turns out never even happened? Commenting on the account, Elder H...

Re: Elder Holland Withdraws Fantastic Missionary Story

You know, on the one hand, I guess Elder Holland deserves some credit for retracting the story. He knew doing so was going to make him look kind of stupid, so I'll give credit where credit is due. But think about this for a minute - here is a "prophet, seer, and revelator" who excitedly repeated a f...

Re: Elder Holland Withdraws Fantastic Missionary Story

Maybe Elder Holland should heed these words from Harold B. Lee: I should like now to make reference to some of these. The first is the spread of rumor and gossip (we have mentioned this before) which, when once started, gains momentum as each telling becomes more fanciful, until unwittingly those wh...

Re: Elder Holland Withdraws Fantastic Missionary Story

How did the false aspects of the story slip past Elder Holland's powerful apostolic powers of discernment?

Religious Freedom Fear Mongering in July Ensign

So there is a rather over the top article on religious freedom in the July Ensign: https://www.lds.org/ensign/2017/07/religious-freedom-matters-whats-at-risk?lang=eng I ask you, is there pending legislation anywhere in the U.S. on even a single one of the so-called "threats" in their list? For examp...

Pfffft. Don't give them the satisfaction. You may think you are making a statement, but in a way you are legitimizing their authority - "here is your recommend back you authority figure you". The very fact you are going into a leader's office to hand him back a Recommend to some extent is recognizin...

Re: Jane Doe 1 Vs. LDS Church Berkley Springs, WV

I'm pretty sure this kind of thing has happened a lot. I know for a fact it occurred in my stake about 25 years ago. The Church is lucky there aren't more lawsuits. And make no mistake, the Church is to blame for all the decades of putting men in positions of leadership and never training them on ho...

Re: Moral Dilemma -- to keep something going even if wrong

They're just old guys! Why do we hold them to a higher standard then we would otherwise? Because they claim to speak for a "god"/Corporation who holds the "eternal salvation" of the entire human race in it's grubby paws. They are the ones who have submitted themselves to be held to a higher standar...

"Sistas in Zion": People who leave the Church don't replace it with anything

http://www.deseretnews.com/article/865685484/One-of-the-Sistas-in-Zion-tweets-her-thoughts-on-people-who-leave-the-LDS-faith.html I really hate the simplistic, strawman approach to describing people who leave the Church. As though they are all the same, leave for the same reasons, and do the same t...

Re: Moral Dilemma -- to keep something going even if wrong

Haha, thanks... Yes, but it doesn't mean there's no blood on their hands. Reality is damn complicated. I completely agree, there is blood on their hands. I don't defend that at all but, like any court of law, I hold a small amount of consideration for intentions and motivations which I think is par...

Re: Moral Dilemma -- to keep something going even if wrong

I don't especially care whether or not they think they are villains, how they justify their deceptions isn't all that interesting to me, and I am not sure it makes much difference to me how they have justified what they do. The end result is all I care about. They probably aren't plotting and conniv...

Re: Moral Dilemma -- to keep something going even if wrong

To respond to your point about the damage done to young children by the church- I absolutely agree. Some of the things that are taught in LDS churches are incredibly damaging. I don't think anyone is intentionally trying to damage us or our kids, but it definitely happens, and makes me mad as hell....

Re: Moral Dilemma -- to keep something going even if wrong

I've said it before - the Brethren don't get a pass from me because they are "doing their best". Fudge that. When Elder Anderson gets up in Conference and tells us to "Give Joseph a break", he knows damn well exactly what he is asking us to overlook. But he doesn't come out and say it so members who...

Re: BYU-I Prof fired for post on Face Book

That's horrible. What kind of an institution of higher learning fires somebody for expressing support for LGBT rights? I'll answer my own question - one that isn't really an institution of higher learning. This just shows the hypocrisy of the church. They are always going on (and on) about religious...
