Re: Hello from a recovering lurker

I like your description of "turning over the rocks and looking at the crawly things". . . So apt a description of what it feels like to venture outside correlated LDS history. Glad you're lurking no longer -- I'm looking forward to hearing more!

I met a friend for lunch and had a glass of wine. It felt deliciously . . . normal.

Re: My Dad.. this might be the end

I'm glad you're going to be with your dad and that you seem to be in a good place about it. It's a hard thing to go through -- I hope you will be able to bring him sunshine and that you will have comfort from these memories in years to come. Hugs.

Re: Season for giving NOM books.

Someone posted recently about being worthy, or being enough and it reminded me of Being Enough by Chieko Okazaki (https://www.amazon.com/Being-Enough-Chieko-N-Okazaki/dp/1590385675/ref=sr_1_2?s=books&ie=UTF8&qid=1479146988&sr=1-2&keywords=chieko+okazaki). Chieko was and is one of my heroes -- someon...

Welcome to NOM, zim35. We would love to hear your story -- you'll probably find a lot of people who can empathize.

Re: talk me down . . .

I decided I'm not going to say anything to anyone . . . there's no one I can vent to IRL who would be sympathetic, and I would only be adding fuel to a fire that has just finally died down to a manageable state. I am just going to keep doing what I have been doing, which is to write whenever the spi...

Re: More NOM posters needed

I honestly will look into the costs of some Google Adsense and Facebook targeted advertising. It's not all that expensive. For $100.00 you can get a surprisingly targeted coverage. No one is trying to make money off this forum and the hosting costs are not very large (about $15 / month). So getting...

I'm so sorry. There's better counsel given already than I have to offer, but I'm thinking of you. Do take care of yourself; these times take a physical as well as an emotional toll.

 It does kind of look like revelations.

How about reassessment? Or rethinking? Or something about a new light, or in a different light?

Re: talk me down . . .

Its always been the spirit of the law to only read your letters and emails on P-day. I was a missionary in the early 80's. I remember getting letters during the week(pre-email), ripping them open and enjoying them. Especially if they were from my girlfriend.(She later got married before I got home,...

talk me down . . .

because I'm feeling pretty angry at the moment and I don't want to do anything stupid. DS#1 is about 10 months into his mission. I've encouraged him, supported, helped -- other than not going to the temple with him before he left, I've been behind him as much as if I were still 100% TBM. -- when we ...

Re: The Church as cosplay

Great analogy, Hagoth. It reminds me of (that really old movie) Somewhere in Time . The Christopher Reeve character was able to transport himself back in time by removing everything from his consciousness that would distract him from concentrating on believing himself back one hundred years or so. H...

One of my favorite things about the new site is that so many old-timers as well as newer members are sharing their stories in this forum. It adds to my appreciation of your posts when I know more of your back story -- and I always appreciated your thoughtful, insightful comments, Zack. Glad you're h...

Re: Going Slow

I really hesitate to participate in these conversations because my situation was so . . . extreme . . . that it's unlikely to ever be anyone else's experience, and I don't want to scare anyone unnecessarily. And yet, if I had handled things differently I believe there's at least a chance my son woul...

Re: Still here

Life is good. I stick around mostly to be a voice for people to get mental health treatment (because it's really important). To be a voice that it's okay to get divorced, it's not the end of the world. I got divorced two years ago, and it's been rough. But it hasn't been the end of the world. . . L...

Thanks to everyone for the advice and well wishes. All of that is very helpful. So, this past Sunday (yesterday) was our Stake Conference. I chose not to go. All three of our kids chose not to go. My wife went. Throughout the course of the rest of the day, I found her crying in secret so as to not ...

I should know this, but is Quinn the one who is supposed to release the expose' on finances sometime soon? I think i reserved a copy on Amazon, but with all the other things I purchase there, I can't find whether it's still on preorder or not, and I cannot remember who the author is. I've got a cop...

RadioWest has a fascinating episode up with as much of an inside story on how the policy came to be as anyone seems to have right now: http://radiowest.kuer.org/post/story-mormon-lgbt-policy

Gregory Prince and Kendall Wilcox are Fabrizio's guests and apparently have some insider information.
