Re: YW General President's Misleading Faith Promoting Experience of Her Toddler Grandson's Death

This story is truly disturbing to me. I mean, there are lots of mormon faith-promoting stories that I realized weren't really postive at all once i left the LDS church, but this is wild. I wish she'd gotten quality mental health counseling instead. This is sad all around.

Re: Resignation Poll

I resigned pretty quickly after I left. One of my least favorite things about being a member was the pressure to try to "reactivate" people. I always wondered why people who were so annoyed to be contacted (by me who was so annoyed at the pressure to contact people and bother them) didn't just resi...

Re: Priesthood is just...

You are 100% correct and I regret to inform you I will be stealing this idea for future references to the priesthood. What a simple, easy to understand way to frame what priesthood power actually is. This is true, but a complete description might involve a description of the hierarchical nature of ...

Re: Is it wrong to be apathetic to the world’s problems?

Wrong? No, just human. Coming from a place of privilege to be able to do so? Yep. i mean, I have to just try not to care about gas prices currently because they're hitting me hard with my commute, but I also realize that for other people, it means they have to make really, really hard choices that I...

Re: Eating out on Sundays

i have no idea. It was definitely a thing my whole life, and my mom told me a story from her childhood in the 60s where she made a big deal out of it with some non-LDS family members. Ironically, I remember on one of our early family Sunday outings going out for ice cream with my family, and the lit...

Re: disaffection and health

I think there's a lot of validity in this. Right before I decied to leave the church, I decided to go back to school because I knew that I needed to get my own career. It was a hard thing to be going through a faith crisis during grad school, but i'm so grateful for the timing in the long run. It ga...

Re: What's up at the MTC?

I sincerely hope they don't think that one round of testing everyone is enough. I know it's definitely not from dealing with outbreaks in nursing facilities. There are almost always additional people. We had big outbreaks of delta among vaccinated individuals, and omicron is reported to be worse for...

Re: New Year’s resolutions?

I think it's time to ditch the wheat grinder. I got rid of the wheat years ago, but for some reason, the grinder is still taking up space in my basement. Also the giant canner and equipment. Those are past me, and it's time to let them go.

Re: For those not listening to conference

Those chilaquiles look amazing! My never-mo aunt came into town on Thursday -- Friday we saw the touring production of Cats (audience was masked). It was a powerful experience to be with a live audience enjoying the first live theatre in many months and the applause was thunderous. She left early t...

Re: For those not listening to conference

I didn't even realize it was conference weekend until the memes and posts started showing up on Facebook yesterday afternoon. This is a definite benefit to living far from the morridor. Had a nice breakfast out with the family. Then I went to the zoo with the kid who wanted to go and ran some errand...

Re: Should anti-maskers in youth/primary callings be released?

In response to your question--yes, I think people shouldn't be able to teach children if they won't perform a basic act of human kindness and attempt to slow the spread of a pandemic by wearing a mask. That said, I had to send my kids into school where they were among a very small minority of people...

Re: Should anti-maskers in youth/primary callings be released?

You know what really pisses me off? For years I watched people shame other members about all kinds of crap they weren't following the prophet on, from not going on missions, to having two earrings, to watching R rated movies, to drinking Coke, you name it. And now some of the judgmental I-follow-th...

I think we might need an orange bubble that uses corporate speech for "internet kills indoctrination efforts" or "women refuse to be second-class citizens" or "those dang kids google everything."

It's definitely not just Mormons, though. Even when I was Mormon, I remember that a friend asked me to explain Mormon theology to her, and I said, "You have to remember that most religious beliefs sound crazy to those who aren't part of that religion." Just yesterday, I had to politely let my mind w...

Re: Jeffrey Holland is a terrible human being so it's fitting he gave this talk at BYU

Jeffrey Holland is definitely a terrible human being. Sometimes I think i might need to go to therapy to deal with feelings of shame and deep regret that it took me so long to see what Mormonism really is. Other times, i think I'm doing okay. The fact that I could change so much gives me hope for ot...

I mean, I think RMN is a ridiculous, opportunistic, power-hungry corporate figurehead, but he got this right. Wear a mask. Get vaccinated. Take simple steps for the good of all. I do find it surprising that so many people are upset by it. I would definitely have still gotten vaccinated and worn mask...

i usually make French press. There's a coffee smell, but it's reduced. They're cheap to try if you want to give it a go, and they make great coffee. I like this one. Get the plain stainless steel one if you get one because the finish wears off the others. https://www.amazon.com/Large-French-Press-Co...

Re: “We really want buttery soft fabric”

IMO demanding better underwear options is the wrong approach. At the end of that day you may get one or two new underwear options but you're still dependent on getting permission of nonagenarians to live your life. "We really want you 100% out of these types of decisions in our lives." And on that ...

Re: Is Trek gone for good? (I hope!)

Yep. I have a friend that realized the church is nonsense about the same time I did. She's still deeply enmeshed because "I can't turn back on the sacrfices of my family." I wonder how many people are staying in the church because of the fallacy of sunk costs. Wonder what those ancestors would actu...
