Re: Grit and Mormonism

I don't know if it's fair to say that the LDS church removed my "grit" from me, but it certainly limited the ways in which I was able to use it. Luckily, I think it was still present, and that's part of what's enabled me to change a great many things over the last few years. I've always been a goal ...

Re: Grit and Mormonism

How do you think we can support the women in our lives who are still in the church to lighten their load? (I would like to be able to do it without assuming that load myself) I am not sure what you're going for here, but in my personal experience for a woman to leave behind LDS "Be a doormat of a p...

Re: God vs Evolution vs middle land

I like to think of evolution as a prime tool in God's utility belt. Good on science for expanding the boundaries of religion. Never thought of this, but a grand creator who implemented evolution...that’s a good one. Ironically, this is what I believed when I was Mormon. God works by natural laws, y...

Re: God vs Evolution vs middle land

I'm fine with apathy towards all of this. I have no idea how the universe started. We have good evidence for how evolution has shaped our world. I see nothing that leads me to believe in any recognizable deity right now. Is there some kind of "creator" out there? Maybe. If so, they haven't made a gr...

Re: Mormon quotes popping up in unexpected places...

I know exactly what it is that bothers you! The middle initial! Just reprint the same quote and attribute it to Tommy Monson, or Tom Monson. It won’t bother you have that. lol I think it's actually the pure Mormony-ness of it. Fonts, design, all of it in addition to the "author." Flashbacks to too ...

Re: Mormon quotes popping up in unexpected places...

We have an inspirational quote wall with quotes from various world influencers (Anne Frank, Dhali Lama, etc) where I work in SLC and there is a quote from Gordon Hinckley up there and it makes me mad when I see it. I try to talk myself out of the anger, but it just bugs me that he gets credited for...

Re: What are you doing to protect your family against the virus?

I donated blood and get a free antibody test. So in 2 weeks I will find out if today I have antibodies. My husband did this a couple of weeks ago. He was negative. I've only been directly tested and monitored for symptoms. Never had it as far as I know. Also been swimming in GermX and Lysol at incr...

Re: What are you doing to protect your family against the virus?

I find it fascinating that the segment of society that are most vocal about opening up seem to simultaneously be the most opposed to wearing masks. Well, if you don't believe the virus is real.... I've literally been doing a hospital rehab eval with a pt who was just taken off the ventilator after ...

Re: Denial

You're more generous than me. I always think that no one is in a better position to realize that he has no clothes on than the emperor who is feeling the chair on his bare bottom. The image of bare, shriveled-up GA bottoms on the big red chairs at GC made me laugh out loud. As for generosity -- wel...

Mormon quotes popping up in unexpected places...

I work in healthcare. My primary job at a nursing home/rehab facility was hit with covid a few weeks ago, so it's been rough time for all. We have a great activities director who is openly gay. (Hang in there--this is relevant) When she took down the activities wall calendar because they were no lon...

Re: Why will you stay or comeback ?

I've been gone for years, and I will never go back. It's okay. I don't believe in a deity or worry about what may or may not happen when I die, and I'm completely at peace with it. I work with geriatric patients, mainly, and it's a really good reminder to me on a daily basis of what matters in life.

Re: Undie Apocalypse

A couple years ago, my newly exmo dad and my 5yo son were with me at Target. My son needed new undies. My dad's all "take your time. Everyone deserves the undies they like best." So many layers of meaning in the exmo world. :D

Re: Your Favorite Foods

My youngest kid is totally a foodie in the making. His favorite thing to do when we run errands is pick out new cheeses at the cheese counter to try. :D He's all about charcuterie trays, too. He's 8. I had a recent obsession going with cheese balls (the good ones from the cheese shop) and everything...

Re: Your Favorite Foods

I'm kind of a foodie, but I also work too much to put nearly as much energy into it as I used to.

It's summer, so I'm all about fruit salad, giant salads with grilled meat of some kind on top, and ice cream these days.

Re: Has anyone been back to church yet to report?

I honestly have no idea if LDS churches are meeting in my area. Probably on some level because other churches are opening up, but IDK. That tells me that my "please don't talk to me about Mormonism" face and FB filters must be working pretty well.

Re: New Information on Lori Vallow case.

And I just have to say this: People who claim to talk to ghosts, angels, demons, dead people, and / or gods, or who claim they are gods are dangerous. This reminds me of a conversation I had when I first realized I really don't believe in any kind of god anymore. Family member: But what if Jesus ca...

I wonder what they could actually say that would be meaningful. Honestly, I don't know.

I mean, they're still racist, bigoted, and sexist at their core, so there's that.
